Out of fuel in uninhabited system - does anyone have any unleaded?

So I found myself in the unexplored sector "Cephei Sector KM-W C1-22 A" without enough fuel to jump out of the system. What are my options?
-Didn't have a fuel scoop (hadn't really needed one before now, but in hind sight they sound like a REALLY good idea).
-Don't know if all stars are scoopable
-Thought about going into supercruise to see if I picked up a random USS with some hydrogen fuel cannisters to pick up, but then I didn't know if I could use hydrogen fuel in my Sidewinder?

So if fuel scooping was not viable how do I get out of the system?

In the end I tried scooping without a fuel scoop, just by lowering the cargo scoop, but then overheated and lost the ship. Is the only exit strategy to plough into a sun?

Is the distress beacon still available in the right-hand panel? If not, the self-destruct button should still be. Faster than doing a Disaster Area move. Although plummeting into the sun (or at least melting on the way in) might be a nice and painful way to go.

:D S

I came very closely to having this happen to me last night also. Got to a station running on fumes and for some reason the station would not allow me to o dock. Comments of you should have planned better are unhelpful. Why did they take out the distress Beacon?

I looked the other night and could not find distress beacon, think it has gone, which is ok as it seemed a bit silly TBH. Self destruct is bottom option on last screen on right hand UI

I had alt-tabbed out of the game to view the forums to see how to fuel-scoop and when I returned I had problems with the UI menus. I could pull up the right hand menu, tab through to the 'Functions' panel, but couldn't scroll down to select 'cargo scoop' or anything else on that functions list. I had received some hull damage due to previous encounters with suns, so didn't know if that had caused the problem, or if it was a glitch due to tabbing out of the game?
Anyhow - reloaded, cashed in the insurance and am off to sit on a beach somehwere.

I've seen other postings say the distress beacon is there but you need to be completely out of fuel, I suppose someone was abusing it.

If you couldn't dock at a station, someone was probably in it / it was full. Likely just had to wait for the logout to remove their ship or them to leave.
Fuel scoop is your best friend. I'm pretty sure it works on any star, but I haven't tried it on all the stars yet.

Fuel scooping is automatic. Just fly close enough to the sun, slow down, watch your heat, turn off non essential systems to remain cooler. You don't deploy or retract it.

Fuel scooping works on most stars. It doesn't work on brown dwarfs. Not sure about some other types. Basically all the bright ones should work.

Ah just to comment on that point it is not totally true. Brown dwarf and certain other types of star do not support fuel scooping as you need it to exhale hydrogen...

It'd be nice to have a Refuel module in the toolkit of a rescue ship role, to bail out stranded pilots like this. It'd be handy for extended fleet operations in greyspace as well.

Correct, it happens automatically but you need to completely drain both your main tank and your reservoir. This can take a while as you may have a small amount remaining in the main fuel tank (although not enough to jump) which will top up your reservoir when it empties.

Just point yourself in a direction and continue super cruising towards it, you'll burn fuel faster in Super Cruise and if you're moving then you'll reduce the risk of interdiction. When you're close to emptying out your tank be sure to drop your speed to < 1000 km/s to prevent damage when you drop out of Super Cruise.

You should be approached by another ship as previously but be prepared to pay over the odds for your refill.

Would be super cool for players to be able to refuel ships, for people fleeting up and going quite a distance or special ops. Such a neat idea.

This was intended as far as the design forum goes. The plan being you could link ships and agree a transfer of cargo, fuel and credits.
It is something of an open question of when or if this will be implemented. I imagine some sort of transfer option eventually, it would make sense. For release? Only FD knows..

Well, this is no longer true, apparently. I just ran out of fuel in an empty system and tried your suggestion. When I finally ran completely dry, the ship switched to the emergency life support, but no distress beacon command appeared and no one showed up. The ship was destroyed when I ran out of oxygen.
