Outer Colony

For those who like a BGS.

Very interesting and like Rogue System or Dwarf Fortress seems to be a developer who is creating to an idea rather than a demographic.

This is definitely going to appeal to a lot of people here from what I have seen.

Very interesting, there is a demo on the main site. The game also looks like it is coming to steam green light, and shows a gameplay video.

I am not sure GreenLight is still a thing but it is well worth reading his dev-blogs. Especially about why he moved from unity to creating is own multi-threaded engine. A wider release would be good but I have seen good games die from premature exposure to testing as well.
I had high hopes for Clockwork Empires, mostly from reading the dev-blogs and that went titsup after getting on steam.
Main issue with this game is UI responsiveness at the moment I reckon. There is a lot going on under the hood but an laggy-responsive UI is nowhere near as forgivable these days as it used to be.

It's Steam Direct now. Pay like 100 bucks and Steam takes the product in the storefront. It's even worse than Greenlight. Now they push all the crap without any curation.

So...a sci-fi dwarf fortress?
I have seen it mentioned on a few forums. Superficially it looks like a cross between DF and Rimworld. Having played it a fair bit is is quite different from either.
I think the BGS is much richer than it first appears but in a different way to DF. What is is trying to simulate is different. The emergent gameplay is brilliant. Also it is built for multiplayer - not my thing I am a single player type of guy but I am enjoying it as a single player.
The only thing I would criticise really at the moment is the interface. I am one of the few that really like the vanilla ASCII interface of dwarf fortress. When you really want to immerse in the game it is fantastic - it is like plugging your brain into the world which is a functionality that todays standardised interfaces do not really emphasise.
Both rimworld and Outer Colony suffer a bit from this but I do not know what the solution would be. Maybe I just need to get used to the interface to the point where it disappears like a scratch on old glasses.
I would say that this game is growing on me very much.
