Outfitting a Cobra Mk III for exploration - advice sought

Hi all. I'm currently noodling my way through Known Space (as I call the Bubble) and have amassed a fairly paltry 10MCr. However, I'm getting the urge to strike out into the black and just see what's out there.

My current ship is a Cobra Mk III outfitted for trade/bounty hunting (I call it the 'Insolvent' - please, please let us name our ships!)

I'm tempted to buy a second one (and name it the 'Are We There Yet?​') and outfit it for exploration. I'd like some recommendations for the configuration (keeping in mind my budget). I'd like to keep some shields as I'm not quite brave enough to go commando [smile]

See my sig... That Mk III is currently about 59kly from Sol making the Roncevaux crossing back from a visit to the far end of the Sagittarius Carina arm and well within your budget.

Like Cmdr Mucrone I'm currently out in the Roncevaux crossing through the Abyss, nearly 60 Kylies from Sol. My ship, the Happy Pig Demon, differs from the Silence Unbounded in that it is equipped with an SRV. If you own Horizons you might want to take an SRV along for the ride, else you'll be better off with Mucrone's loadout.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that the Cobra isn't a good ship for exploration! :)

I'm posting my build as well so you can compare subtle differences. I'm with CMDR Billy Chase and CMDR Murcone currently passing Roncevaux Crossing in Cobra MKIII. Abyss currently is easy to traverse at plane level with this jump range. Difference between mine and Chase's is additional Heatsinks for those spicy moments but so far have proven to be uncesessary (never say never though) and little more powerful (and heavier by 0.3 T) distibutor. Little cheaper AFMU unit as well (but with collectible mats its not an issue) It comes with SRV hangar equiped as well. Range is -0,36 YL lesser than Happy Demon but with little extra safety net for emergency.

All in all Cobra MKIII is one hell of the ship! Pleasure to fly even at 60.000 LY distances away from inhabited space.
