Ships Outfitting a Corvette for the New Mining (Core?)

Haven't done mining since I had to do so to unlock some engineer. Back then it was just shooting rocks. But now I have a spare Corvette lying around and thought I'd give this new mining stuff a go.

This is the ship I want to convert: https://coriolis.io/outfit/federal_...zMCAWAHIgpgQwOYA22E085EiVQA==&bn=Heavy Hauler

So what exactly do I need? (note: I still want to kill all the interdicting pirates like I did last time as well)

And where's a good source of reading material (I hate boobtube vids...) describing this new mining stuff?

Thanks.

Also, this will be strictly for Solo/Mobius, so no requirements for dealing with other players.

The Corvette really is not the best for core mining. Something smaller, faster, and more agile would typically be better suited for core mining as it involves moving around the asteroid when placing charges and then sticking your nose into the remains. Having the cockpit at the front also helps. Typically, medium ships with the ability to fit a lot of cargo racks and sufficient hardpoints such as the Python or Krait mk II would be the usual suspects.

If you insist on core mining with a Corvette, there is not really a lot you need to do:
  • The internals will work perfectly fine.
  • I would fit a smaller shield in favour of more cargo space.
  • You need the following optional internals: Surface scanner, refinery, prospector limpet controller, collector limpet controller(s)
  • Nice to haves: A few more collectors, a fuel scoop, an FSD booster. I would throw away the docking computer and fit the surface scanner there, but this is only a possibility if you are comfortable docking manually (or intent on learning it).
  • Utility: A-rated pulse wave analyser.
  • Hardpoints: Get rid of the small and one medium frag cannon. Install a seismic charge launcher and two abrasion blasters. You can keep the rest if you want to fight the pirates.

I've tried different ships for mining, including corvette and the cutter. So far my ship of choice for mining is a cutter. I have all mining tools I might ever need and two beam lasers for self defense, plus 576 tons worth of cargo space. I've been mining with this ship for some time now and so far can't complain. If there's some station not to far from my mining location I'd stop there and swap my fuel scoop for another 5B collector limpet controller. When I'm done with mining I would stop there again and get my fuel scoop back for the return trip.
