Outfitting a Ship Basics

Here's my quick notes per how I outfit a ship. Maybe it will assist others.

Generally for any ship I buy the highest class (1 - 8) and then A-rated FSD followed by a Power Plant
and Distributor to support it. Personally I want the best for all three as in:
FSD - Max jump range
Power Plant - Max power for all add-ons
Distributor - Fastest capacitor recharge for all SYS/ENG/WEP items.

For Combat I go with all highest class A-rated gear as in:
Thrusters - Max manuverability
Life Support - Longest emergency oxygen time
Sensors - Increased weapons accuracy/range
Shields - Best protection
Weapons/Defences/Scanners - Player preference

For Exploring I go with D-rated gear as higher ratings add a lot more weight.
Less weight = larger jump range. Also:
Advanced Discovery Scanner - ID all bodies in a system
Detailed Surface Scanner - Supposedly better trade prices
Fuel Scoop - For those LONG trips

For Trading either the Combat or Exploring setup is OK depending upon the needed
jump range. In safer systems I may also eliminate or remove the Shield Generator
to a lower class internal compartment to add additional cargo space.

For Mining the Trading setup is OK plus two mining lasers and the best refinery.

Note that this info is just my opinion...Yours may vary!

A question for the benefit of newcomers: what exactly is your specification qualifying the 'best' FSD, power plant, and distributor? You mention Class A, but what rating exactly?

Just needed a little clarification so I could calibrate my perspective on the other suggestions to your standards! :)

Sorry, it's two items as in highest class (1-8) then A-rated (A - I). Probably could have worded it better so I updated the OP. Thanks

You should try to have the highest class type for your ship first and then look at the rating so on a Cobra where it can take a class 4 item you are better off with a 4D item than a 3C and a 1A item would be a joke if given the choice.
