News Outfitting 'Hot' Ships

Greetings Commanders,

We want to address the concerns raised over the recent changes to the outfitting of ‘hot’ ships. The intent was to ensure criminals pay appropriately for their crimes, and simplify the existing systems as it was generating a lot of confusion.

However, after receiving your feedback this morning, we believe that there is a possible solution that could satisfy those who felt it was too punitive whilst remaining sensitive to the Elite Dangerous lore.

We propose that outfitting ‘hot’ ships will work in the following way:

  • Outfitting will be available at Anarchy Systems and Starports to those with Wanted status on their ships.
  • Outfitting will not be available in non-Anarchy Systems and Starports for those with 'hot' ships (ships that have fines or bounties issued against them).
  • Basic refuelling will be available at all Starports that offer the service regardless of a ship’s legal status.
Thank you for your continued and vital feedback and helping us to improve Elite Dangerous. Please leave your feedback in this thread and we'll keep you updated with more information.

Thanks again for your support!

I like the general direction of this. Anarchy systems and bases should definitely be places where criminals can find refuge and access services from which they are barred elsewhere. :)

One of the goals of the change was supposed to be concerns with the unexpectedly high cost of laundering hot modules, would that be reinstated to how it was before, just that hot modules would effectively only be available in anarchies?

Power bounties don't make anything "hot" (at least they are not supposed to) and so should not be an issue in this context at all.

Try shooting some federal minor faction NPC and report how it went when you landed on a imperial station looking for outfitting. You are forgetting that powerplay is not the only faction gameplay.

What about superpower systems? If I'm wanted for undermining imperial BGS factions, surely I should be welcome at federal, alliance and kumo crew systems, no?

Enemy of my enemy is friend..

Also. Will.

Acceptable. Thanks for the changes. They make sense. Mostly... Not sure what the point was of having bounties be area specific though...

The best feedback I can give you guys right now is take your time. So many hastily rolled out fixes and overcorrections for small problems that make you guys look like no one knows how the game works. It's incredibly frustrating as a player.

What is the point of jurisdictions if I still can't outfit OUTSIDE OF WHERE I'M WANTED? Why don't you just nuke the costs associated with switching hot modules instead of slapping on a quick fix that kills all criminal gameplay?

Tnx Will. I still thought about all this during a hot bath not being able to believe that Elite Dangerous would be the only universe where criminals are not able to change and modify their tools. :D

It's wierd they didn't deal with the heat shock/cascade and premium glitches this fast. Maybe because they didn't have much impact on the PVEers? Totally not.

I'm down, and I'm impressed with the quick response. Thank you mi' darlin's.

Hi Will

This change doesn't really address the initial problem that you had - that of people removing hot modules and then getting a shock later when trying to clean them. Perhaps if Commanders could only sell hot modules but not store them, this issue would be resolved? They can still clean them with their ship, but if they want to do a swap out, it has to be sold?

Ryan.

You nailed it in the first paragraph...

FDev. I urge you. Beg you. Play the game more. Dabble in criminal play.

Walk a mile in someone's shoes right?

I've come to expect ELITE is constantly changing and trying new things. But use a light touch...
