How about collapsible top items in the internal compartments:
- Shields (Generators/Cell banks)
- Refineries
- Limpet Controllers (Collect/Fuel/Prospect/Cargo Hatch)
- Hull Reinforcement packages
- Cargo Racks
- Discovery Scanners
- Frame Shift Interdictors
- Fuel Scoops
- CPUs (Docking, and perhaps eventually add more to this category?)
This way you don't have to scroll thorugh EVERYTHING to reach what you're after. Click a top level category and the items for sale drop down. Click again on the category and it goes back. Like a file/folder explorer. Would be so much more easy to navigate, to get an overview.
The sorting is a good solution, but it would be so much more user friendly this way.
Could also be done with Hardpoints:
- Laser/Energy
- Rail
- Cannons
- Missiles
