Newcomer / Intro Outfitting Sidewinder

What would be your recommended upgrades to the base Sidewinder?

I don't really know where to start...

I'm sorry but that is a "how long is a length of string " question

may sound flippant.. but it all depends on the task u want to

Not all "upgrades" have a positive effect and I have not seen a "uber" or max pimped out loadout either (thank God)

check out some of the elite dangerous videos on youtube... a good place to start

Difficult to say without knowing what you like to do. Missions? Trading? Exploring? Bounty hunting? For me, I wanted increased cargo hold and I actually bought a docking computer, although I know many would say not to waste the equipment slot on a DC.

Sorry, my bad next time I will be more specific. Thanks for the advise!

Missions, Trading and exploring is what I most like but i've tried today to kill some wanted and it looks very profitable.

There's four different paths to earn money right now

1. Trading
2. Killing
3. Exploring
4. Mining

Missions are just a type of number 1 and number 2. There's various kill missions, and there's various cargo missions.

You need to pick one, especially on the sidewinder. The first ship you can actually fit to do two things in my experience is the cobra, and that's really expensive.

What would be your recommended upgrades to the base Sidewinder if i want to hunt down wanted ships?

And for you(or everyone who wants to answer), what is the more fun path to play?

Railguns. LOL. They're freaking awesome, although overkill for such a small ship.

I've had the most fun going for kills. It was the most lucrative route too - the Sidey is just too small to trade in, imo.

I'd go for lasers if you're worried about costs and/or rearming if you're light years from an inhabited system. In all honesty, though, I'd suggest that multicannons are better - they do less damage to shields, but tear big chunks out of the hull once you get through, and a Sidewinder isn't the most obvious choice for an explorer.

If your aim is crap, go for gimballed weapons. They're more forgiving. I had some success with two gimballed multicannons.

I can't remember what else I had in terms of reactor, power distributor and shields, but they were all significant upgrades. The distributor was A1, iirc.

As I'm still sore from the experience, I suggest that you avoid the cr100,000+ kill missions for the time being - I bit off more than I could chew tonight in my first mission of that kind (in a tricked-out Viper). The target was in an Anaconda. He cut through my shields like they were butter in one pass, and quickly disposed of the rest of my ship. I didn't even have time to target any sub-systems to slow him down.

I'd upgrade the base (loaned) static lasers for gimbled lasers. They are slightly less powerful but a lot easier to get hits with and that more than makes up for it.

Maybe rip out the basic discovery scanner and put in 2 extra cargo bays so you can carry more. When I fight pirates I sub-target their cargo hatch in the hope that they drop some rare commodities. If you have 6 bays instead of 4 you can get extra free profit. Just don't get caught with stolen goods... find a nice platform to land at with a black market and no authority presence.

Also you could maybe invest in a KWS (kill warrant scanner) so that you can claim bounties from ships who are wanted in different systems?

As for the "fun" question. That's very subjective. What one person can consider "fun" another may not. Just remember this isn't an arcade game, its more of a flight sim which has things to do other than the main "flying" part of it. Don't come into it thinking that docking and flying through space are boring and you just want to dog-fight all day - if that's what you are expecting you might need to look elsewhere. You'll spend a lot of time mastering supercruise and docking at stations. A 'lot' of time. More time than you will shooting pirates.

Burst lasers, chaff launcher, fuel scoop, upgrade power plant, upgrade distributor: that's what I got for the sidey when I sold the Freagle and hunted my first wanted bounties.
