Newcomer / Intro Outperform turnrate

Hi folks,

I wonder what I'm doing wrong with PvP - in every sidewinder vs sidewinder combat the opponent easily outperforms my turn rate and almost always sits in my 6 .

Even switching off flight assistant does not make my turns better .

So some hints on PvP would be appreciated.

You need to add some more info about what you're doing if anyone is going to be able to give you any advice. Are you pitching or yawing? You should be using roll to get the target directly in front/back of you, pitch to keep him in your sights and yaw to fine-tune your aim. I like to add downward thrust while pitching upward with the throttle in the blue. This will give you the fastest turnrate possible while doing somewhat of a drift because of the downward thrust. If I'm forced into pitching down then I would counter that with upward thrust during the pitch. This is more for a circle-fight than a jousting run.
If you like to lance or joust you should be boosting past the enemy, turning FA off, doing your pitch-flip, turn FA back on, and make another run.
Also, the way you distribute power can affect your turn rate. If you put some pips into ENGine, you'll turn a bit faster.

Combat is hard to describe with words, I suggest you look at some video tutorials and practice.

Maybe your opponents had better thrusters? This kind of equipment affects your ship's turn rate. Also the turn rate is highest when your ship's speed is in the area of the blue dots, which also changes depending on how much energy you provide to your engines.

It could be a bunch of stuff, though. Are you yawing? Yawing is really slow. Are you going into reverse? Reverse-thrust makes you turn much more quickly. Are you disabling flight assist? Quicker still. Using vertical thrust? Even quicker.

There's a lot of optimization you can do in your turns, even without thrusters.

Thanks folks, lots a good hints, gonna check them all.
Btw, my sidewinder is(still) standard equipped. In all combats I was interdicted (why not intercepted???).

I don't know where this "interdiction" comes from, but I'd guess from Star Wars. In that universe the Empire uses Interdictor-class star destroyers capable of simulating a large gravitational field, which causes other ships in the area to drop out of hyperspace.
I may be wrong though.

  1. Interdiction is a military term for the act of delaying, disrupting, or destroying enemy forces or supplies en route to a battle area.
