Outside view from cockpit only?

Is the only outside view available the one of the pilot looking outside from inside the cockpit?

If there are other outside views available how do you get outside the cockpit to look?

Yes cockpit only at the moment. You can see more of your ship as you cycle through the equipment in the outfitting page.

Getting out of the ship and walking around is in the works per the FD News letters.

Only from inside the cockpit. There might be camera drones you can control at a later date to get external shoots, but never a straight up 3rd person view.

The best way to take screenshots/videos without the cockpit right now is to use the Sidewinder and look up. It's also possible in an Eagle if you lower the field of view in the settings.

What about a periscope (not literally) type of implementation. Where, you can look into a screen/goggles that connect you to an outside camera on the ship. This would give you a 360 degree view in a hemisphere. Flip the ship over to see the other hemisphere.

Camera drones would be epic! Just have basic rules like no weapons deployed or something, and a minimal cost if it's destroyed/lost.

There's a way they could make a couple bucks too since microtransactions are probably going to part of the game. Mini ship skins as your camera drone.

I dont get it. How would a straight up 3p view differ from a 3p view from an imaginary 'drone'

So Im looking at my own ship on a screen on my ship? Isn't that bizarre in the history of gaming. Its like watching a screen of myself in my own room playing a computer game.

I guess thats what people here consider 'cool' but to me it seems completely bizarre. X3 just gave players a 3P view and its great, although there's no hud info which is fine, I just wanna see my ship full screen with no obstructions or fake CRT effects on it in space in a background of my choosing, not just in the hanger lawl

*Im not talking a 'behind the ship' locked view like some arcade game either, just a free 360 access view thats not locked so it'd be very hard to even fight with..

it's all about immersion

and as you cannot just exit your spaceship (atm) you cannot look from outside - as easy as that

you are supposed to be a person sitting in a spaceship not some outside watcher of the scenery

I wish there was an immersion switch option for "hardcore players" with the added realism of no sounds effects caused by external events in the universe such as lasers and also the realistic modelling of the theory of relativity.

For rest playing in crazy fantasy mode option the ability to see your lovely ship from the outside, sound effects and faster than light travel should be enabled.

As mentioned earlier, a camera drone will probably arrive at some point. You'll be able to use the normal flight controls to pilot that outside your ship, for beauty shots with interesting backgrounds, things you discover, etc.

The only thing FD doesn't want to allow, apparently, is flying your ship in any way from an outside view. So a camera drone will take care of that. You'll need to be in a safe area with the ship "parked" and floating, or docked at a station for the views.

I'm sure something like this is on the way, because FD is making money selling ship skins. I think most of us who have paid for skins, are getting tired of just seeing them in a single paltry outside view in the Outfitting hangar. :)

Whats the use of making a view where you cant move the ship? You wont be able to take any action shots?!

FD take these shots themselves from within the game, I want to be able to do exactly as this>>

No its all about B.S.

I guess FD is 'breaking your immersion' by showing you pictures like this? OH NO!! HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY THIS>>

Ok ok so maybe David got launched into space by Elon Musk and was able to take this shot with his Canon 70D?

And the developers of Mirrors Edge can take images like this:

Still doesn't mean the players can. ;)

You'll just have to get some friends together and do what real photographers and filmmakers do just like in this user made video (1:13 mark):

I hope they never implement anything like that in ED.

No no no no.

By you guys logic such shots like this BREAK IMMERSION. How are they taking these pictures?!?? They must have sent a special satellite into orbit recently to acquire such images? There has been no explanation given how these are done, it seems impossible and its ruining the game for all of us!...

Real-time third person is unlikely according to devs, so sorry about that.

People love to hate that word immersion, but the haters can always play Tetris or some other totally abstract game, one that doesn't offer a depiction of any kind of consistent fiction.

I like a feel of authenticity and immersion in my fictional worlds. That does not equate to slavish realism, but it does equate to consistency.

IMMERSION! There, I just typed it again. You mad bro? Too bad.

Use of sensor drones is the best way to go, what with the additional gameplay avenues they open up (exploration and spy missions, for instance).
