Over Shooting the target

Hello.

I have a quick question.

Is it possible to come out of super cruise without overshooting the target. I just feel like i'm missing something. It usually takes me 2 or 3 passes before I am able to safely to jump out of super cruise. It seems no matter how slow i attempt to go, I just cannot slow down fast enough.

Any tips would be appriciated

Thank you

Basically, go full throttle till the timer hits 9 secs, then go 75% throttle (middle of the blue zone on your speed indicator), timer will drop to 6 and stay there, so stay at that setting till you're under 1mill meters per sec (indicator on the left side of your scanner should display 2 lines - be in the blue on both), then hit the button to drop out.

Job's a good 'un :)

as you are approaching with ~7-9 seconds left try to reduce your speed to the blue zone, you'll see that its really easy to not miss your target and with time you'll get more confident with your approaches, but 7-9 seconds its a safe zone.

Dead easy. Look at the blue area on your throttle, and make sure you stay in it. Then you will probably slow down automatically just as you approach the drop point. It it is a long way away, then go for full throttle, but remember to ease up (into the blue @75%) in time. If you start to ease up when, say, 15 seconds away, that usually works.

Use the blue zone, on the speed indicator.

OK, if the distance to the object is 100Ls, you speed should be under, 10Ls or just under 10%. Which should mean the throttle needle, will be in the lowest blue section of the blue area.

So, lots of power to start and cruise and then throttle down to the bottom part of the blue area, if the distance figure, is under 10 times your speed.

The easiest way that I have found is as follows:

1. Bind a key to 75% throttle in the Options>Controls section.
2. Go full speed at your target until your 500Ls out.
3. At 500Ls or less press your 75% throttle hotkey.
4. Stay pointed at your target and you will slow down automatically the entire way in until you can safely drop.

Whats nice is you are at what seems to be 75% of the optimal speed (based on the blue area of the speed bar) the entire way

I like the challenge of doing it my self with my Throttle but when I was just keyboard and joysticking it I found this technique to the be the best for never overshooting but still making good time to target. I definitely overshoot with my throttle sometime still :(

When your ETA reaches 7 seconds, throttle down into the blue zone. You can get away with 6 seconds, but it's not as consistent for me.

I'm with Biggus. The 7 second rule works for me. 6 seconds is do-able, but 5 normally means doing a U turn.

Until you get a 'feel' for it when it hits 0:07 shut the throttle completely then ease it back up to the 7 secs.

I usually overshoot on purpose, and spiral to the target in the blue zone AFTER i got the "slingshot like" acceleration.
It feels to me like it takes less overall time, or maybe it's just less boring and i feel it shorter :p

This is quality advice. Now you mention it I remember seen the x0% options when fiddling with bindings but never thought to apply it. I'm going to try this :)

These were the bindings I ended up using with the keyboard:
~ = 0%
1 = 25%
2 = 50%
3 = 75%
4 =100%

I always found myself flying backwards unintentionally during dogfights and it drove me crazy. This was probably due to holding down S too much I'm sure but it still was annoying. So I started pressing 2 = 50% or 3 = 75% periodically during dogfights to ensure that my ship was going forward or at least would start going forward if I was flying backwards. That worked pretty well. Also if your using WADS and used to FPSs the 1-4 keys should be pretty natural to hit without looking. 50% is optimal maneuverability for you ship if I remember correctly so I would use that alot too. Full stop with ~ was good for submitting to interdictions quickly.

BLUE ZONE - ZONE BLUE

"The blue zone is for slowing down and stopping. There is no slowing down and stopping in the orange zone."

"The orange zone is for slowing down and stopping. There is no slowing down and stopping in the blue zone."

"No, the blue zone is for slowing down and stopping. There is NO stopping in the orange zone."

"Don't you tell me where there is no slowing down and stopping ..."
