Overkill fortifying in PP Control

I wonder how difficult or problematic it would be to cap how much a single cmdr can fortify one system per cycle.

It would help enforce teamwork to control systems and prevent merit farming one system repeatedly.

Maybe I dont understand the system well enough to maje this suggestion so am open to hearing peoples thoughts on this.

Personally, I think there should be a merit bonus over certain distances.
So every 50ly gives an extra 1 merit per tonne. Plus also limit the volume of over-fortification possible. When limit reached, no more deliveries are possible (or they earn 0 merits)

I'd just cap it once a system is fortified which would force players to look elsewhere to deposit their goodies. Let them keep any excess once the cap is reached so they can move to the next.
They might then go see different parts of the game world.
Also, the 5th rank / 50 million bonus / 10,000 merits may be the primary reason for this so removing that might be an idea as well.
It would help keep things that bit more civilized.

So not just me then! That's good! :D

I think though, that if an undermining starts to catch up with a system, then fortification should become allowed again to keep it under control.

As I understand it (I refuse to ferry around virtual packages), once the trigger is reached it makes no difference. Undermining will happen if that trigger is also reached, doesn't matter if your fortification is at 101% or 5000%, they'll just cancel each other out.

Its designed that way.

The mechanics is there to make sure, that organized, dedicated and smart people will have an advantage over "merit farming" crowd. I think its good as it is.

Face it, those people dont care about their power.

They are actually proposing something for this, if you look on that sticky thread, though I think it's more about over-undermining causing a system to go into turmoil.

Most of the time it is down to simple laziness. Merits are earned no matter how over subscribed a system is, players are simply going to their nearest system to deliver and not even looking at the powers map.

Yeah, the whole thing feels...wrong!
In one day of undermining (shooting hostile targets) i have earned 1200 merits and nothing has changed in the system...could done so the whole week or 'til i die.
But there is no great feeling for this success, just a...strange feeling!

I just wish I could have my whole week's cargo allotment in a lump. I understand the need to gate PP cargo behind money eventually, but in a week I can get 7 x 24 x 2 (one allotment every half-hour all week) = 336 allotments for free. I'd rather have it all at once as I have a really big ship. All this does is advantage people who don't have lives and can be on all day. I can only play for a few hours a night during most weeknights, but I could move 3360 tons reasonably in that period (and actually for me it'd be 5040t b/c I get 15 per allotment). Right now I don't have the credits or the patience. I feel this change might help over prepping b/c If I didn't have to make so many trips waiting on the cooldown timer, then I'd be willing to go further.
