Overlays killing fps?

Has anyone else noticed that overlays such as fpsVR or Desktop+ seem to be killing the frame rate in Odyssey? I thought it was just Odyssey at first, but realised everything ran smooth again when I disabled these overlays. E.g. Dropping from about 50-60 fps with overlays off to less than 5fps with overlays on, even if it's just fpsVR showing an in-headset framerate and nothing else (works fine if fpsVR is only showing on the desktop). Also, sometimes it takes a little while (10-30 seconds) perhaps before the overlay starts causing issues.

Doesn't seem to be an issue in Horizons, and seems to be worse the higher I push the resolution/quality. Also, doesn't seem to be an issue in the main menu, only once loaded in to the game. It particularly doesn't like any change (up or down) to the HMD Quality or Supersampling if an overlay is active.

I've not seen anything close to that level of drop off with fpsVR. However, the number of variables is immense, from the type of headset, it's configuration and the graphics settings in Elite. It could just be a particular combination.

I have to be honest, I'm having a hard time finding a sweet spot with Odyssey.

OK, thanks. Might be just me then. Tried a complete reinstall of Elite and fpsVR, but same result. I hadn't noticed it prior to update 6, so not sure if it's something new or if maybe I've tweaked some setting somewhere.
