Overrun with Pickpockets and Vandalism

So I saw PC had a sale on Steam and decided to get it. But now I'm considering refunding, cause earlier game is unplayable for me because of crime.

I've played my fair share of RollerCoaster Tycoon, and it's manageable with some security. I'm doing one of the first campaigns, 5 security guards hired, 3 nearly maxed out in training. And I get alerts about pickpockets and vandalism every min.

I got frustrated enough to come on here and ask for help. I'm still under the time limit to get a full refund, so if there's no fix, that's what I'll have to do.

First of all, the career scenarios are listed out of order. The ones at the top are new and should be listed lower under medium. Start with the beginner and easy scenarios before moving on to the more difficult ones.

As for security, its a new feature they just added into the game. It has some bugs that are still being worked on

I think it could be hard to say at this stage since security only came into the game a few days ago.

Have you placed security cameras around?
Do your security guards have work areas so that you can cover the majority of the park?

I'll admit that there does seem to be quite a lot of crime when you get notification every couple of minutes. I'm still trying to work it all out myself in the park I'm building on Challenge mode, however it isn't a very large park and I only have one security guard. He isn't enough though.

No cameras available to me yet, waiting to have the option to research it. I get alerts every minute, not even every couple minute. At this point, I feel like I'm playing Amusement Park Security Simulator

The campaign difficulty isn't giving me trouble. Not sure how tough the Pirate one is, but I beat it yesterday. It's the crime alerts that's driving me bonkers and making it not fun at all.

I just double checked and you do not need to research cameras, they are there listed under scenery next to the art shapes

You can also disable security (if you want) but only for sandbox or challenge mode (not career scenarios)

I'm sure the devs will update security soon as it needs some balancing fixes

The first 3 scenarios are the only ones with heavy pickpockets. They are new and should not be listed at the top of the scenario list. Start with the beginner and easy scenarios first.

If you insist on playing the new scenarios with security, just make sure to research cameras immediately... actually I just double checked and you do not need to research cameras, they are there listed under scenery next to the art shapes

I only have 2 scenarios available to me. The one I started has "(Beginner)" listed in the title. When I look under the Security tab, it says "No objects researched".

I guess I'll just have to play it with crime disabled. That sucks.

Edit: oh my bad, the first scenarios do not have cameras [ugh] that sucks! I thought they didnt add security to the beginner scenarios, that definitely needs to be fixed

There's your trouble. Guards are about useless without cameras. No cameras and guards can only react to what they see, which isn't much. Guards can only see in the direction they're facing, and they apparently don't see very far, either, probably the same 15m that cameras do.

Sufficient cameras can see everything and will mark specific peeps as criminals, telling the guards to be on the lookout for them and eject them on sight. But they don't tell the guards where those perps are, so the guard still has to wander into visual range of the perps. And the perps seem to know where the guards are and can take routes to avoid them, so the odds are with the badguys on this. Which is why having a guard or 2 at the park entrance, where the perps have to go, is such a good idea. Rather than hunting all over the park, they let the perps come to them. But the guards still have to be facing in the right direction to see the perp even at the entrance.

And there's my dilemma. No cameras, incompetent guards, crime every minute, free falling happiness.

So what are my options when I have security cameras available to me yet? I just bought the game, so I have the beginner scenarios to get through. And they don't give me cameras, nor do I have the option to research it.

I would love to have a toggle, that shows me exactly how far a camera can "see" this way i could efficiently cover my park without plonking cameras everywhere thinking "that looks about right"

A green cone emitting from the Camera would be REALLY helpful. Also, i don't know if it is in game (I'm at work and can't check) but a Security Tutorial would help new Players out. If you weren't there from the beginning, the entry for new Players is quite steep. We had a gradual introduction on how the game ticks.

Seems like that's a bug, if you can't place/research any security cams in the first career parks.
I would recommend to turn off the security in the game settings and you should be fine until they fix it. :)

There is no research for Security. The Cameras are under the Scenery Tab.

Hmmm, no camera-shaped icon over in the lower left corner when you open the scenery tab? That's a problem. I agree with PlanetChris, that's probably a bug/oversight

If that's the case, either turn security/crime off in the game options (if that's possible for the type of game you're playing) or try another scenario where cameras exist. Flooding the park with guards might help some, but wouldn't be as effective as if you had cameras, and would also be quite expensive.

I'm doing the older scenarios also & there is a ton of crime in those as well. You can't get cameras until you research Planet Coaster Scenery, but even then they don't help. I saw no reduction in crime with 2 guards & lots of cameras. On main menu in Game options you can turn off security. I did that still had crime wave. Hope it gets fixed its really annoying!

in the "older scenarios you do have to research the cameras. They are under Planet Coaster scenery when researching. However,I think there is a bug. I got cameras & guards still have tons of crime & now unhappy people =vandalism. Cameras did not help reduce crime

I just got the game about a week ago, and I've been managing just fine on the regular scenarios by hiring just one security guard and training him three to five times. The crime rate goes down quite a lot, and security guards are not that expensive.
