Oversizing = Copy/Paste

Hello people, so slowly I believe that the problem with oversized dinosaurs, for example Crichtonsaurus, Huayangosaurus or Nasutoceratops rather s.dem game developer lies as the publisher. Of course it is easier to integrate a new model or a new skin into the game than to develop new aniations according to the correct size of the dinosaur. time is money and that does not seemingly like to be invested in an already published game, maybe I also do someone wrong but based on the massive number of oversized species in this game expresses exactly this point.

Actually, here’s why:

Many dinosaur species in-game tend to come in many sizes from each other as I observed, no matter how similar their animation and behavior rigs are to each other. Resizing four of the game’s species (Ceratosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Spinosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus rex) was a thing due to constructive community feedback, something this game and its developers utilize when developing a post-release game like this and their others before it (and likely after them all, if Planet Zoo follows the same).
However, it should be noted that plausible exceptions may exist to what Paul_Crowther said above at some point in its post-launch development, which are, based on my observations, the Dreadnoughtus and (maybe, because I have to look at its comparison with the other stegosaurs again, but its Dinopedia entry and tour attraction voice say it’s small) the Huayangosaurus because of their in-game descriptions. Especially considering this post of his was made “before” the Dreadnoughtus came to be in the game.

The Nasutoceratops, believe it or not, is actually smaller than the Triceratops in-game. Breed one of each together, and you will see the difference. It’s still big in the most basic sense, yes, but still.

The majority of the dinosaurs in the game are larger than their real life counterpart. This was indeed done because of the size recommendations based on Universal Studios guidelines. This was extremely notable with the stegosaurs, ceratopsians, and ankylosaurs species that are notably larger than their real life counterpart.

One thing to note is that this has been addressed with the ingen database. So far, all dinosaurs that are not part of future updates and dlc as far as I could observe, are given an updated ingen database on their sizes. The 4 dinosaurs that had their size changed in update 1.4 now have more correct sizes based on their new scales, as well as they small herbivores given size measurements accurate to their ingame models than their real life counterpart.

I could see them updating the ingen database further, there are some changes as well, as (please correct me on this), giving lengths and height of the indominus rex and indoraptor which I believe used to be "???". And weight changes to the brachiosaurus to 60 tons and triceratops to 12 tons. The future additions to the roster have yet to have their ingen measurements updated, but we could see that happening soon. The nasutoceratops would most likely not be made smaller to match her real life counterpart as it is rather large in her canonical appearance in JW:BABR. So I could see her getting an ingen database update to her measurements to match her ingame size eventually (which is 7.6 meters long, and 3.9 meters high).

Just went back to the game now and observed all of the stegosaurs in-game. All of the non-stegosaurus stegosaurs were actually smaller than the Stegosaurus itself. The tour voice for the Huayas, Chungkings and Kentros even say they are all small stegosaurs. So, the Huaya might not need a size change like I partially predicted above after all, because "to a Stegosaurus, a Huayangosaurus, Gigantspinosaurus, Chungkingosaurus and Kentrosaurus are small".

However, the only stegosaur that questions me is the Gigantspinosaurus, because the tour voice says it's a medium sized stegosaur. But, when I compared it to some of the others, it's about the same size as the Huayas (base body wise) while still being smaller than the Chungkings. I don't know if it's meant to be another way of saying it's small or if it refers to its overall size when you include the spikes, like the shoulder spikes that make it look bigger than it really is, if you know what I mean.

None of the Dinosaurs in the movies or games are based on their real life fossil record counterparts. People need to get over this. No one wants them wasting more time on making a Dinosaur 0.005% bigger or smaller. They are fine as they are. They based on the film franchise which is science fiction.

None of them need a size change.
