Overwatch

I am surprised there isn't a thread about this yet. Overwatch has been out for about a week and it is really, really good. Surely others here must play it, too? :)

I played in the open beta - eh. It was fun enough, but didn't really grab me. I think it's the hero system - I prefer games where you can modify your loadout (and unlockables!) which this obviously doesn't have. I'd imagine anyone who likes Team Fortress 2 though would love Overwatch, and I did like the animated shorts - may end up playing just to keep up with the storyline.

Personally I got bored of that kind of death match FPS game about 15 years ago after playing far too much Unreal Tournament and Quake III Arena. ;)

i'm tempted to give it a try, but when i see youtube videos for me is the typical gogogo fast kill-dead game and i'm really tired of that.

I'm getting old :(

I found this "honest trailer" which is hilarious:

There is nothing more satisfying than pwning in games like that and there is a reason why people seldom play them these days. Skill ceiling is far too high for casuals.

Shame really since games liek taht really took time to master.

Nice poorly camouflaged insult there. Well done. Must be nice to be you.

Back in the real world, "pwning" people gets tedious after hundreds of hours of doing it and you end up craving a game with real substance instead.

Bought this. I like it. Its tf2 but a but more mental round the edges. Its good because its pick up and play and doesn't demand hours upon hours of play to feel good about what your doing with your time of an evening. It'll get played a lot by me because right now ED is sucking the life out of me. I do enjoy engineers update but I just don't have the time to devote to it.

Well I ended up getting it, put in about 15 hours and it's been a lot of fun. Don't know how much longevity it will have - as it is obviously there's nothing really to work towards to unlock, only three game modes, and a handful of maps. But Blizzard are probably the best at keeping a game fresh for years, so I'm sure Overwatch will be no different.

The characters are awesome. They all have distinct character and voices, all have great art, and they are mostly all balanced and fun to play. The diverseness of the line up really makes it interesting, as no character really plays like any other. Typical Blizzard levels of polish on the great art, sound, music, etc. Solid mechanics and level design. This is especially true as certain characters can reach higher places, even make their way over buildings.

There are things that amaze me though - in every pvp games I've played, camping and especially spawncamping is the lowest of the low. I've seen players get tk'ed for spawncamping, but in Overwatch it's just part of the game for defense teams to rush the enemys spawn and fight them right as they exit. And characters like Bastian are pretty much designed for camping. A lot of matches seem to end up with one team camping a position, and the other trying to break through.

TBH though it does feel like a 'casual' shooter. I'm not mlg 360 noscope or anything - probably below average to be fair, but having all enemy characters highlighted in red boxes, the teamsight of enemy troops, eh, not a fan. That's not even taking into account the wallhack and aimbot abilities Widowmaker and Soldier 76 have.
