Own a Megaship?

Should be able to buy a megaship, not just a fleet carrier, for specific roles.

Maybe when Colonisation opens up those bulk haulers or research vessels might become available.

‘Fleet Management’ could be a thing too as a result to aid efforts across the galaxy.

That could be added to existing carriers, or is there anything preventing it?

Originally, Fleet Carriers were going to have literal fleets with them that you'd buy in order to increase productivity. They decided to just do away with that and have the carrier itself have all the features rather than having the carrier backed by a fuel carrier, a freighter, etc. Is it still possible? Maybe, but it might be too complex for FDev at the moment.

I'd say that it is rather complex for the players to manage additional ships to maintain a carrier. Imagine the outcry :)
I also dare to say that by far most carriers are merely a private space station to store ships and wares for the owner. Nothing really wrong about it but for me as a player they are irrelevant because they don't offer any services but are only a nuisance (we have a thread where we discussed that FCs are being used to block the access to certain systems such as Rackham's Peak which a player can only reach by using a carrier shuttle service). The only valuable carriers for the player base are the DSSA carriers which I love to visit during long distance explorations.

Therefore, why adding player owned megaships? What gameplay would they add a) for the owner b) for the player base? I'd rather opt for more carrier versatility/roles. More customizations for them and maybe an incentive to do what they were supposed to be: Ships for long range exploration, being a faction base and for certain PowerPlay scenarios.

I could picture them as additional support ships similar to the Stronghold Carrier setup, flying in a formation. Though, in reality, I believe they would serve as little more than a minor novelty with limited practical use, eventually reduced to decorative displays of CMDR´s "power" and wealth, and acting as stationary noobhammers while one is trying to dock with the main carrier.

Hows megaships would be better that FC's in any given role? With that limited mobility of single jump per week.

Higher jump range? Good luck with one jump per week, even if it would had jaques station-alike jump capacity (after all it did jump from bubble to colonia in one go, back in the day), but image tritrium required for that, not to mention, of breaking jump range balance in game, as "unlimited" jump range would mean such megaships would be everywhere (given enough time), and surely would made concept of travel meaningless, to any distant part of milky way, effectively making scale of game virtually smaller.
Only good thing I can think of that, it would be ability to reach otherwise unreachable systems with means to go back, and there is plently of those, like specific star cluster (the famous PSR) that is so far from the galaxy map, that cannot be zoomed in, and very few cmdrs was be there only because during betas where they been send to it by Fdves.

Better cargo capacity? Now, even with 5 times much as cargo capacity, that 1 jump per week still makes it quite slower than regular FC bulk cargo runs, as wing of trade cmdrs can load and unload entire carrier worth of cargo in few hours.

Given those limitations, and since FC are already there, megaships would be nothing else that peety place holders in order to brag about one's wealth.
