So how do you think it will work?
First what I would love to see:
Personally I would want it so your suit's oxygen supply can only be refilled from external sources.
Meaning:
-From your SRV
-From your ship
-From outlets in buildings etc.
-From canisters/tanks(these can even be laying around in human settlements and abandoned places, but not always. And they are not guaranteed to be full either).
I'd also prefer the internal supply to last for some time. Somewhere around 1 hour perhaps(at least), for standard suit. Then you could perhaps customize your suit to bring an extra canister, to double the time, but also sacrificing capacity for other equipment you can bring.
This would make the SRV allot more important, and more appreciated. Also this could make for some pretty nerve wracking excursions into alien ruins, derelicts and such(if such things are coming).
Better prepare well if delving into the unknown, sort of thing..
