Pad sizes - mission justification?

Just got a mission to take some stuff to an unexplored system. Get there and discover it's a platform - so no large docking pad. Not a big deal, only a 44kCr fine for failing to complete the mission.

How is it justified that missions to platforms are being offered to owners of big ships? Surely if it's clever enough to realise how much available space I have in my hold (and deny over-capacity missions as a result), it's clever enough to think "that ship's not gonna fit"?

It may be clever enough to figure that it'd be a good check to pop to the system map if you're driving a bigbutt. Personally I think we should be allowed to take any mission we like whether we can qualify for it currently or not; barring the "carry this right now" missions. It'd be nice to have the option of grabbing a juicy fetch mission you see while BHing around, then ditch your combat ride and go get your van for it.

I like having the option to totally fail things rather than auto failsafes.

This would be more tolerable if you could transfer your cargo to smaller ship.

That's another tiny yet really helpful change. There are a lot of things that would be more interesting with even just a few more tweaks to the way players can interact with the game and each other. Not easier, just more depth, data, and choice instead of handholding over simpler options. I hope the complexity of the game increases as far as the methods we use to operate in it and with it.

You obviously missed the word "unexplored" in my OP. No system data available. Odd, really - they decided the place was profitable enough for a station, you'd think the system data would be available.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies. My just have to restrict myself to the area of the map where all the surveying has been done.

Yes it is irritating, and should be fixed, a simple statement in the mission that its a platform should be enough.
