Painite

There's an older thread somewhere (maybe in the beta sub forum) that has other people's input on this. Don't remember the details myself...

Never heard of it (?)

But it would explain the old Smuggler Type-9's stating "Seeking Red Crystals - top prices paid!" over the comms.
At the time, I could never figure out what they meant.

If there's a mining area holding these, at least I never encountered it.

-"One of the most valuable types of gemstones in the galaxy"
Price: 36400 cr per TON....

Conversation from an outfitting store:
"Hi, I'd like a 4A FSD for my Cobra"
"Ok, how you gonna pay for that?"
"I have some of the most valuable gems in the universe..."
"Yeah, that FSD will cost you 44 tons of those gemstones"
"....?"

Inflation has run a little heavy in the Elite universe. Or... it's like those old school RPG games where you had an inventory slot that could fit either a full plate armor or a single gemstone.

This only makes sense if you have a ton of a bunch of dirt with some painite in it. That's where the refinery comes in.

This is precisely why I have been begging Frontier to contact an economics graduate, in the absolute least, before damaging their economy any more with hair brained idiotic meanderings. They're amateurs trying to work on a complex system, to CREATE a complex living economy, with absolutely ZERO understanding of economics, and at most a high school student level understanding of complex systems.

I guess its a pain to find these.

So far there hasn't been a single sighting. But then again, it's the same with all the magical weapons that everyone from Gamma has that none of us idiots who thought Frontier had any moral's or integrity--and wouldn't have allowed multi-millionairres special access to and mass storage of elite weaponry then never allow anyone else to get it--would ever have expected. Because that would be freakin' insane, right? So what's the bet it's the same with the gems, and they're not even in the game yet or something?

Do the devs correct spelling/grammar errors in the game?

'highly sort after' should read 'highly sought after'

Have you PLAYED Elite Dangerous? They don't even use a rudimentary proof reader from the looks of things. Also, why is the elemental constituency listed for this but nothing else? And why does the description read like they have copy pasted the Wiki article on Painite out?

Also, for the record, it's no longer rare. It WAS rare, with only 15 samples known to exist. But as of today there are tens of thousands of samples in circulation, and while a single karat would have cost $1,800 ten years ago you can buy a 2-3 karat gem for about $25.

I am not even joking. $25 for what would have cost near two grand. It's cheaper than diamonds by far. Cheaper than gold even. So unless someone mined and bought all the painite in the universe and shot it into the sun idek how they're going to spin this one. It's as idiotic as their 'narcotics' sub section listing all but one thing that are NOT narcotics.
