Paint jobs MIA?

Is there a reason why a bunch of older paint jobs for various ships have gone missing from the store?

I first noticed that I can't buy the same "Union Jack" paint for my Cobra that I had on my other account.
Then I remembered that there used to be a whole heap of "flag" paintjobs for the Cobra and they've all gone.

Also, I used to apply some of the "Vibrant" and "Tactical" paints because they were a cheap way to standardise the paint on different ships and, although some of those are still available, I'm pretty sure some have vanished too.

Anybody know why this happened?
I mean, it's not like "shelf space" is an issue for DLC, right?

Yeah, it really, really blows chunks that they did that. I've liked a lot of what Fdev have done this year, there's a lot to celebrate, but the way they're running the store is decidedly not one of them.

Well, I certainly found it difficult to find the content that I really wanted, and I didn't have a better experience either.

Not really sure how removing older paint jobs would help improve those things.
I mean, at worst, there's around 4 pages of paint jobs for some ships and you can sort by colour.
If they were determined to provide "a better experience" it seems like adding a filter to allow people to sort by age or popularily would be more useful than simply removing content that's already been created.

...
If they were determined to provide "a better experience" ...

Let's face it all they were determined to do was rip us off rake in more money so prices went up by between 100% and 350% and coupled this with the buy ships early for Arxes and buy pre-built ships for Arxes. Natural reaction of the playerbase - "Oh, new ship, here take my money"...

What we should have done is totally boycotted the store until they reverted the changes - no chance of that of course.

When they introduced Arx, during the Beyond era, if people had boycotted the store I doubt FDev would have noticed.
At the time, DBOBE probably got a bigger income by looking for change down the back of his sofa than the store generated. 😛

I like to think players have a good relationship with FDev so I'm not keen on things like boycotts but they do seem to have a habit of dealing with the big issues that everybody complains about and completely ignoring the stuff that only a few people complain about... and if there are enough small issues you reach a point where there's a lot of different things to fix to make everybody happy again.

This just in; turns out businesses need to make money in order to employ people.

This is annoying. I’m guessing we’re not going to get a vibrant red for the Mandalay then 😔
Probably not. I counted myself lucky that we got Tactical Olive for the Python MK.II... even if it is way overpriced.

There's still plenty of ships that no longer have this option available. I'll admit, I quite like the Apollo Green, so may start grabbing those as my weekly ARX allow, but they're, again, not available for all ships. The Type-8 has an Olive based option too, but it's still annoying that I used to be able to get Tactical Olive for all ships relatively cheaply, and then get fancier olive based options as they became available. Now some ships just remain stock because there's no options for my tastes.

The Vibrant and Tactical were the best options to get a professional, uniform, appearance across a fleet.

Removing paints from the store that are still in the game seems nonsensical to me. If it’s hard to find what you want on the website that’s a site UI issue not a paint issue. 🙄

The crazy thing is, if you ask support to add a paintjob that definitely existed (let's say for arguments sake, Type-7 Tactical Olive...), and remove the appropriate ARX from your account, they won't. They quite literally don't want my money. It's insane. They really should've addressed the UI, and not removed over 50% of the stock that was offered. So many players have shifted to only buying ARX for ships. I'd have easily spent more than double what I have in the past few months if only they let me buy the stuff I know exists and want.

Ugh!

Not sure if this is irony or prescience...

All my mining ships were "Military Earth Yellow" which I liked because it looked a similar colour to what Caterpillar paint their machines.

Alas, due to either my new monitor or gfx card (or FDev messing with the colour tones sometime in the last couple of years) they just look "brown" now.
So, a month or so ago I bit the bullet and bought "Vibrant Yellow" for my AspX miner, my Krait miner and my T10 miner 'cos that's kind of JCB Yellow, which isn't terrible.

And then I went mining in my T10, decided I can't put up with it's shonky limpet deployment any more, and replaced it with a Corvette.

Aaannnd.... There's no "Vibrant Yellow" (or "Military Earth Yellow") available in the store for the 'vette. 😣

It looks really good in yellow too! Pretty sure my old evacuation ‘vette was vibrant yellow.

You're not the only one, mate. Digital items cost absolutely zero to keep available after design is done. Bunch of stuff I had shortlisted (and not just to collect from free ARX) is gone for no rational reason. The Noble series for Clipper, some Asemic variants from several ships, and others. If there were complaints that the shop was difficult to navigate, it's hard to imagine they also said that it's because of too many choices. Been ranting about it for a bit already, cf. signature 😬

Of course, it's no loss really except for the company coffers. However these things inspire ideas, only to have them killed and that does give a little damper to one's motivation. Everybody perceives this a little different. At any rate, if I see tactics applied like FOMO or artificial scarcity where that has no bearing whatsoever on game balance, I only get more a...-retentive with my money.
