Paint packs

Just bought my 1st ship upgrade, Viper IV. Looking to tart it up a bit with a paint pack.
Question: Is it worth considering a camouflage type color in an attempt to be 'less visable' or does it not matter if the ship was orange or bright yellow?

For small ships like the Viper or especially builds relying on silent running it can be a slight advantage to use a black/dark paintjob. Night vision pretty much negates that, though.

Paintjobs have no gameplay impact outside some edge cases in PvP (and even then thrusters give away your position anyway).

Just go for whatever makes you smile and feel like money well spent, I've bought a few packs and play mostly PG/Solo - true vanity :)

Depends.

vs. NPC’s, does not matter. They have no eyes to fool, they simply know where you are.
vs. Humans, might help, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Tactical white to midnight black doesn't matter in a combat situation. The targeting systems don't care about the paint. But per immersion feel free to go camouflage if it makes the player feel better. It won't help in a Python with a dozen side lights always turned on etc.

The target system doesn't care, but - especially at long range with lr hitscan-weapons - bright targets are much easier to hit than black ones, even more so if they are using silent running.

With the introduction of night vision this is no longer an issue, though, and that's a good thing, since cosmetic items should not grant an advantage, even if it's just a small one.
