- Any way to get the paintjobs available on Steam as downloadable content? It would just be so much easier that way.

It's probably something to do with steam taking a large chunk of developers money and also taking control over pricing and sales.
Basically developers give away a lot of control for the publicity that steam brings. In Elites case they've not jumped into steam with both feet first. Yes it'd be much simpler and better for the customers but to be honest it's a lot for the developers to sort out especially since they keep adding more and more paintjobs/bobbleheads/extras.
It may come later on and I'm not against the idea but I just wanted to point out that the developers may have good reasons not to do it.
