I'd like an alternative setting that means the left and right hud panels do not show just by looking in that direction. I know that currently you can press panel look to hide them but I'd prefer it if I had the option to have them hidden by default and press panel look to show them.
I have an usual control setting that means that I run into some problems when flying with the rift. I use wasd for lateral thrusting and space & ctrl for primary throttle. This means that if I'm holding down space and happen to look out of my left window, the panel navigation controls are enabled. Unsurprisingly, I also have these set to wasd and space for select.
What tends to happen is I'll be adjusting my throttle while tracking a target; it flies past my left window; I look left and end up in the galaxy map.
This seems like it could be specific to my control scheme but since the panels do partially obscure the view (in an eagle anyway) I was hoping this idea might pick up some support.
