John Schnatter, well known racist, got caught using a verboten slur and was essentially forced out of his own company today. This is an amazing turn of events, but it probably is the smartest thing for them to do.

Shares of Papa John's fell by as much as 5.9 percent to a new 12-month low of $47.80 a share in intraday trading Wednesday — erasing $96.2 million in market value. The stock recovered somewhat, closing down 4.8 percent at $48.33 a share. Papa John's is down 13 percent so far this year while Domino's shares are up 48.5 percent.

Locally, that kind of thing would have gone over rather badly in a country that's 50% black. The Ministry of Health just sacked a local doctor over her Facebook slurs ( about the other 50%).

But the attendance at his franchise outlets was not affected, though the 'net is buzzing about it. Papa John's pizza is a popular brand here. I would buy the shares myself, as things will probably improve.

Heard of many people getting sick after eating PJ pizza and that it's not even that good. Never went to PJ and tend to avoid all chains like Dominos even though their pizza is pretty good but nothing beats a real pizzeria.

One of my favorite pizzas companies to order from is racist?! Time to boycott them as well.

It's hard for a black man out here! The color of my money is good enough for them but not my skin color itself?

I don't know if he's racist or not. But he was quoting someone else when he said that. KFC if memory serves.

I'll still buy pizza from Papa John's because it's good pizza. Can't say as much about KFC's chicken though.

But on the color of skin, it's kinda funny. In Germany, I was considered black. In America, I'm considered asian. In England, I was just a neighbor. Different societies look at it differently. Personally, I think England had it right.

I've never understood the attraction of Papa Johns, for the price of one of their pizza's I can get a Thai meal for two with starters.

Ive only had papas pizza once, the pizza hut and Dom's were closer. Now I dont even have them and the nearest KFC is just under 400km away...

He might have been the founder ceo or what ever, but the people who work in the store I got mine from were all nice people.

So much for freedom of speech.

Huh?

"Freedom of speech" refers to the protection of speech from government prosecution through legitimate legal methods.

In this case, it was the board of the company that he himself put together, that found him too odious to keep on. He has not been prosecuted, and remains at large.

Of course, for good reason he won't be seen on their packaging anymore.

From BBC:
Papa John's founder John Schnatter will be removed from the pizza chain's branding after his use of the N-word forced his exit from the company.

Good lord, this is sounding more and more ridiculous:

The call was arranged between Papa John’s executives and marketing agency Laundry Service. It was designed as a role-playing exercise for Schnatter in an effort to prevent future public-relations snafus. Schnatter caused an uproar in November 2017 when he waded into the debate over national anthem protests in the NFL and partly blamed the league for slowing sales at Papa John’s.

On the May call, Schnatter was asked how he would distance himself from racist groups online. He responded by downplaying the significance of his NFL statement. “Colonel Sanders called blacks n-----s,” Schnatter said, before complaining that Sanders never faced public backlash.

Schnatter also reflected on his early life in Indiana, where, he said, people used to drag African-Americans from trucks until they died. He apparently intended for the remarks to convey his antipathy to racism, but multiple individuals on the call found them to be offensive, a source familiar with the matter said.

What utter rubbish...

There once was a shepherd boy who was bored as he sat on the hillside watching the village sheep. To amuse himself he took a great breath and sang out, "Wolf! Wolf! The Wolf is chasing the sheep!"

The villagers came running up the hill to help the boy drive the wolf away. But when they arrived at the top of the hill, they found no wolf. The boy laughed at the sight of their angry faces.

"Don't cry 'wolf', shepherd boy," said the villagers, "when there's no wolf!" They went grumbling back down the hill.

Later, the boy sang out again, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!" To his naughty delight, he watched the villagers run up the hill to help him drive the wolf away.

When the villagers saw no wolf they sternly said, "Save your frightened song for when there is really something wrong! Don't cry 'wolf' when there is NO wolf!"

But the boy just grinned and watched them go grumbling down the hill once more.

Later, he saw a REAL wolf prowling about his flock. Alarmed, he leaped to his feet and sang out as loudly as he could, "Wolf! Wolf!"

But the villagers thought he was trying to fool them again, and so they didn't come.

At sunset, everyone wondered why the shepherd boy hadn't returned to the village with their sheep. They went up the hill to find the boy. They found him weeping.

"There really was a wolf here! The flock has scattered! I cried out, "Wolf!" Why didn't you come?"

An old man tried to comfort the boy as they walked back to the village.

"We'll help you look for the lost sheep in the morning," he said, putting his arm around the youth, "Nobody believes a liar...even when he is telling the truth!"
