Paradox Interactive's DLC/Update Method VS FD's

Paradox Interactive is a dev studio that constantly has great dlc and updates for their games. When Paradox releases a DLC they focus on a single aspect of thier game putting half behind a paywall and the other half is free. This update method is also observed by Mojang ( The Developer of Minecraft ). Mojang is widely unhated and praised for their updates on Minecraft.

When FD release a DLC (Odyssey for example) it's usealy a tacked on feature that barely interacts with the rest of the game. It's widely accepted that Odyssey feels like a different game and God don't get me started on powerplay.

Synopsis: maybe "blazing your own trail" isn't what you should do FD maybe follow some one else's trail for a change?

I'm sorry in advance to any Full Time Forum Users I agitated with this post.

Remind me - which paid DLC was powerplay added in?

Uh huh - like when fdev added Multi-Purpose Limpets into the Base game and the Scorpion into Odyssey recently - like that?

So ... the tl;dr is that fdev should carry on as they are - good good (y)

I'm not gonna bite, except to say that I haven't logged into Horizon's since April and that Odyssey has improved by leaps and bounds since then and I believe will continue to do so. Odyssey is not an FPS bolt on. It is a logical expansion of the game that has an FPS element, sure right now much of the mission content is combat based but on foot was a huge advance in complexity for this game and for Frontier and what we have now is the basic groundwork that can be incrementally improved over time. I mean once FC interiors are in game and working I can see the possibility of boarding and fighting in derelict megaships or even let us loot decommissioned FC's. Bottom line for me the additional game choices Odyssey offers is really enjoyable, I'm playing more than ever, if my ex knew how much I've spent on Virpil gear this last year, I'd be speaking an octave higher but I don't care

I'm not sure about Minecraft, but I don't think there are paid DLC for that? It looks like they're just constantly updating the main game?
When it comes to Paradox games... every time you get bare-bones version of the game and you must wait for dozens of DLC's and updates that will add features previous title already had. In the end you're buying the game over and over again, paying much, much more for it that it's actually worth. I don't like that at all.

Correct Minecraft isn't paid DLC. But even their latest content was split into two and released in the summer of 2021 and into 2022.

Minecraft players are generally much more healthy and respectful about these delays than other games I could mention 😁

That said it's always super solid when it appears. Great game though, a certifiable classic.

Yea they're great if you want to drop big money on DLC every few months.

They have 18 games in their steam store and 159 dlc of which all but 6 cost money to buy.

Mojang take ages to release content (even pre-covid) and absolutely none of it is charged for.

Usually done in a way to subtly force you if you're a dedicated player to buy the DLC as well.

I threw my 'toys out the pram' with them finally with their 'Man the Guns' DLC for HoI 4 (which I only play casually), that allowed you to determine the sea sectors your convoys will use, whereas base game does not.

It seems like such a small weird straw to break the camels back, but yeah, that was what did it for me in terms of me refusing to get into the 'own every dlc' mindset I used to have for their games.
