Parents gaming with their kids

I decided one day to play roblox with my son as i feel elite is a bit much for him and he brought me to this game on roblox called azure mines

I have wanted to share this for a while as its actually a fun family game. its well thought out and is very much child friendly.

What games would you guys suggest for parent and child gaming. doesn't matter what platform its played on as long as its at least a co-op game

I no longer have children. They are all adults. So I can't help you much, but I admire your desire to game with them. It's a good thing to do!

The LEGO series from Teltale are a lot of fun to co-op (or single op and dad-assist on the boss :p )
Also Disney Infinity is also kind of fun especially as it gave my kid (a girlie of 9) a glimpse to what is actually programming and so she likes to create her own little sandbox worlds (with no bad guys in it :p )

The one game my daughter really enjoyed was the last rollercoaster one that Frontier did.

She created all her school friends and several family members as people and then we created the park together, which usually ended up as a giant horse sanctuary.

Then she discovered she could pop the balloons with the mouse...we didnt get much more done after that :)

Why do you think Elite is too much for him? Didn't you play Elite when you were a kid? I'm pretty sure most of this forum did.

I won't ever have kids of my own, not in this realm anyway, but I hope to share my passion for PC gaming with any nephews & nieces I may one day have. :)

I have no children yet. But I often play with my nephew. He likes constructions set. We built dozens of construcrions.
I think that game isn't important. Most significantly is being open-faced and lightsome.

My daughter (7) and I started out playing Minecraft together, on console and then pc as well. Roblox sounds interesting and she has asked about it. We also play FX2 pinball and recently let her play some Red Dead Redemption in a private multiplayer match where she could ride the horse around without doing missions or getting into the more grown up parts of the game. I hooked up my NES a few times and we took turns playing Super Mario Bros. Also set up the WiiU where we can play Mario Kart. Lots of options out there.

My grandson loves playing Space Engineers with me. Building stuff is his thing, a lot of his builds are better than mine. He's 11yrs old this year.

Got my Elite and a laptop to stop him nagging. Showed him the basics and him loose on the galaxy, he knows if I see him in-game that I'll shoot him.

I play Mario Kart with my 6-year-old daughter.

Aside from this, she loves any game that is about making things. She plays Minecraft, Disney Infinity, Spore, Mario Maker, and Kerbal Space Program (though she needs help to make the spaceships actually work).

She also likes to valet park daddy's ships for him in Elite, so if you see my Anaconda trying to dock upside-down, I'm not drunk (probably).

I'm not drunk (probably).

Nice!!

KSP is awesome but I haven't gotten her on to that yet.

PSA on microtransactions... A fellow in one of the gaming clans I'm associated with made a comment about not locking his credit card for purchases. He bought a game about 3 mos ago and forgot to lock it back down. His 5 y/o racked up $950(USD) in charges playing Roblox. MS worked with him because of the kids age, but I don't see everyone being so lucky.

Been gaming with my children for years, now they are in their 20's and I still play with my son as he enjoy the same games as I do.

It's much fun and a great time to be together even if you're miles a part.

Goat Simulator. It was free on Xbox Live recently and we take turns playing. I believe there is a split screen local multiplayer, but we just hand the controller back and forth.

I'm always gaming with my kids (9 and almost 11), although their obsession with Minecraft can be a little wearing at times.... I got bored of that years ago.

Of course this includes video games and tabletop games. In fact, the most recent gaming session we had I finally introduced them to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, which they absolutely loved (despite my very rusty DM skills).

Eldest son has already started making maps and plotting out an adventure to put us through. ;)

Would be helpful if we got an rough age group ^^

A 4-7 year old is a whole different set of games than a 10-14 year old ^^

This. I have been playing the LEGO games with my daughter for a few years now (she's 8 now) and she's enjoyed them well enough (but her attention shifted to Minecraft recently, so we've played less together). Other excellent local co-op games include Trine 1,2 and 3 and Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light. We have also played a little bit of Gauntlet and Magicka, but they didn't really take.
