Newcomer / Intro Part Exchange v Selling for a new ship

I have noticed on the forums that some people had said that you get more money if you stip your old ship of parts and then buy a new ship rather than just PX it

So here is my finding

Selling Adder (improved to mainly C class stuff)
Buying Cobra Mk III

PX
Cobra 379718
Adder -463057
Bal 83339

Ok so now I sold all the weapons on the Adder, and downgraded as many internal components as possible to E1's

Then bought the Cobra Mk III by trading the (slimed down) adder and paying cash and ended up 45,776 credits better off than the PX option - so enough to upgrade the weapons and cargo holds

If you part exchange your old ship with all it's fittings you will get 90% trade in value for everything.

If you sell off the individual components first you will get 100% trade in for those and 90% for the ship giving you a better deal overall.

The other thing about doing it this way is that you can buy back any components that are compatible with your new ship even if the station does not normally stock them.

if you keep your old ship then end up in a sticky situation where you can't afford the insurance on your new ship, then you'll have a backup plan and wont need to risk everything by flying a ship you can't afford to lose.

might not be important now when the loan can cover a loss, but it will save your bacon when you get into the really expensive ships!
