(part rant) Weapons in Elite Dangerous as a whole confuse me

I just shoot stuff...I see what kills stuff the best and just use that to shoot stuff more efficiently...The rest of it I just hear as 'wubble'

Lol, I concur. Reading the OP made my head hurt. I point and shoot, get money, buy a bigger point and shoot.

I think I've seen only one single move that got the sound of a Gatling right. Can't remember which one, though.

AFAIK Heat and Ronin got the sounds of guns at least in principle pretty accurate, although the latter has polished them a lot to sound deeper, fuller and less reverberating. But no Gatlings there. Games and movies are not reality. They are more than reality (and sometimes less). No one expects a Gatling to sound like a racing engine with the mufflers rusted off.

Oh, and thank you Frontier for sending my previous (rather lengthy) post to nirvana for allegedly containing a swear word. Couldn't even figure out what it might have been.

I enjoyed reading the OP but the main point, as well as the relevance to the game generally, are suspect. Multicannons LOOK wrong for their sound and ROF, and their power draw is merely a balancing factor. If you want an example of a strangely high power draw, look at Dumfire missile racks; nearly as much as a beam laser! What are they doing, manufacturing the propellant as you fly around?

The weapons are that way purely for balance. When dumbfires get their damage nerf maybe FD will see their way to dropping the power draw a bit in compensation. Way back before Beta-1 there was a dev quote (from MB i think) going around about E: D being a game that "slapped realism in the face" or "hit it with a stick" or somesuch. Here is my take on realistic future space warfare:

1) Instruct computer to initiate combat 2) Await outcome.

Sounds fun, eh?
