Partial reward for partially completed missions

Short story, when I manage to deliver 4999/5000 units of Gold in source and return, and run out of time, I should get at least some reward to cover my expenses, and maybe part of the profit as well (or, equal to percentage of delivered goods).

Long story: I do wing missons because I have big cargo ship and it is easier for me to deliver 1x 2000 units of same goods than 20x 100 different goods. So I was doing one mission and I suddenly needed to quit playing till next day, some important work. Next day I logged in, took lots of missions because I planned to play longer and then suddenly found out that I have 15min left on my mission from the day before. I needed to do 2 more runs, while one run took 8min. I arrived with last goods, I carried only last bits of needed goods (cca 1900/2000 already delivered, not cheap stuff) 1 minute late. I got nothing out of cca 30mil reward. And I was in 10mil loss because I had to buy goods for my own money. I got so angry that I could not play the game anymore. I did not play it next day, because still angry (30mil is still much money for me). So I lost all cca 18 missions and lost reputations in many stations. I got more angry and did not play for another month or two until now (I still did not play Elite since then).

I can imagine that same thing could happen in missions where you have to destroy 50-60 enemy ships and you manage to destroy 59/60 in time. Or 40/60. Does not matter, you put much effort in it, get destroyed several times, it costs you money in either type of missions and one should simply get at least some reward.

Sorry you won't like hearing this but no. You didn't complete the mission within the time criteria and hence you failed. You had the opportunity to complete the mission the following day but decided to take other missions first. The onus is, as it should be, on the player to manage his or her time.

Can you imagine what would happen if FD allowed this, players would be taking wing missions, completing some small portion then getting paid for it - which is wrong as they had no intent to complete the mission anyway. Think of it like this, I was just doing a string of solo fetch missions, I knew that at least two, if not three enemy NPC's would try to interdict me once I returned to the home system. That normally doesn't worry me, I only have 95ls to travel and I enjoy the mini-game. But as soon as I dropping into the system, i received messages that two of my 5 missions now had time bonuses of 3 minutes, potentially worth at least Cr3m to me. Of course, straight after getting those messages the NPC lined up and I ended up doing two back to back interdictions, and by them time I got rid of those, realigned to the station, got there and dropped out, the Time Bonus Failed messages appeared just as I was racing thru the toaster rack. So I lost out, probably by 30 seconds maximum. So should I be given 95% of those bonuses since I was so close? Hell no, I failed, I accept it.

You may have understood me wrong, I was speaking about ANY sum of credits, not necessarily equal part of reward. At least for the expenses. OR make it able to get the delivered goods back in case of failure. I accept that I failed the mission. But not only I didn't get reward, but I also lost 1900 units of goods that cost ME about 10m CR. Not that I got 0, but I am in minus 10M. And I think it is not fair that the station will keep both money and goods. I think it would be fair if player at least got money back for expenses, or was able to take back delivered goods and sell them on market. So that at least player is not in serious loss. If I knew that, I would give up the mission at the point when I had it half completed, with 2 runs remaining and 15min on timer, and save 5M.

OR, the reward would slowly decrease over time. Give players 10% or 30% or whatever fine for not completing the mission on time. That is how it works in real life.

BTW, thanks for noticing and answering, I appreciate that you care.
