Participating in beta - question

I have beta access but I never tried the beta, so my question may be stupid but here it is...

If I download the beta and log in with my commander I play now, is there a danger that I lose my ships or credits? When I started the beta 1.2 I was asked to log in and I was afraid and closed it. :S

Thank you!

What happens in beta stays in the beta. No effect on your "normal" commander. Get in, test, and the evening before the release join us in Shinrarta Dezhra for traditional Betapocalypse!

Last couple of times they have copied your account over to the beta but it has no effect on your main game save.

Actually, this was only done for 1.2beta (copy live CMDR to generate beta CMDR). For 1.1beta, everyone had to start a fresh CMDR.

Otherwise, all posts here are correct. No progress was ever copied back to the live server in past betas and we expect the same for this one.

I thought it had been done twice, definitely last time. It gets a bit confusing after 18 months of testing.

I have a question on beta as well. If i download the beta, do i need to redownload the entite file on release or will the release just over right any changes that were made to beta?
Hope my question makes sense.

Entire release, unless you copy files around, which may be a bad idea.

The best part about beta is that all ships cost 100 credits but can be sold for their regular price, this way you can actually test all ships and different configurations without having to grind and worry about money.

You have no way of knowing what has been changed for beta so trying to copy files around is just not worth the time and effort.

No point is risking screwing up your main installation or risk FD think you are trying to hack your client - click on the beta when it appears on the launcher and download the beta copy.

And expect the download speeds to be erratic and slow on the day of release - it saves a lot of frustration.

Not only is the cost of ships and equipment nice - but being able to test without risk is fun too.

Beta is a separate install. When the Beta is over, the actual game install will be updated. Downloading the Beta will have zero effect on your current 'Live' install.

Don't waste time monkeying around with files or copying anything. When the Beta is available to download, it will appear in the patcher. Click on that, click on 'install' and let it go.

To participate in the beta, you download a second full installation of the game.

To later patch the live game, you only download the change patch from 1.2 to 1.3. Depending on the amount of changes, and powerplay sounds like a large number of them, the patch can be nearly full game size.

Just make sure if you wipe your Beta Game you are actually in Beta and not live.

And Beta is not a waste of time. Yes it does not trap all bugs and all exploits. But every one trapped and removed makes go-live so much better for the community. :)
