Passenger happiness disposition: Does it really matter?

I've done about 50 meatbag deliveries and from what I can tell, other than abject failure, the passenger happiness rating has no impact on mission outcome. On one mission I blew off her 2 tons of food and she went from happy to miserable but I still received the full mission payout. If this is the case it's a pointless game mechanic. I should receive a reduced credit payout or some sort of ding on my Galactic Yelp Rating. Conversely if I place economy passengers into business/first class/luxury cabins there should be some sort of positive upgrade (e.g. happy --> very happy). Or if I actually go out of my way to meet their demands there should be a realistic bonus (not a lousy 10-50k) to make it worth my while. If I'm missing something please let me know but for right now the customer is not always right.

My passenger got so miserable he wanted off at the nearest available spaceport or land base. Never got paid.

I had a VIP passenger mission that didn't want to be scanned. Unfortunately the mission spawned Interdictor that scanned my Cutter every time before I could turn & fire on them to stop the scan. It only took 3 scans before passenger was miserable and wanted off the ship at nearest station and started a timer. I managed to make it to the destination with five minutes to spare on the timer and didn't get paid. Passenger added insult to injury with a message about not recommending my services to anyone. I think my rep took a hit for that mission too.

Solution: I no longer take passengers who don't like being scanned, they can walk as far I'm concerned as I'm not wasting one hour plus for no pay!

Warning: Beware taking criminals as the relevant line in the passenger trait that they are a criminal is NOT highlighted in red and instead it's the same blue text color as the other lines! The only warning in dark red on darkish brown background (bad color choice for those of us with red-green color deficiency as it's hard to see well) is the one that tells you that they may be wanted in some systems.
