Passenger mission ridiculous rank gain

I've just started doing passenger missions again, first time since the last update, and I've noticed I am getting ridiculous amounts of rank gain in Trading AND Exploration.

It seems that Transport missions give you Trade rank, and Sightseeing missions give you Exploration rank. All good, but I'm currently Tycoon/Pioneer (last one before Elite on both), and have gained over 30% in EACH having done less than a dozen missions. And barely leaving the bubble.

So I reckon you could get yourself to Elite Explorer fairly easy now by doing a bunch of well paying sightseeing missions, and never go more than 400 Ly from Sol. It's good that you get rank from these, but as the money is ludicrously good, it's belittling the effort that was previously required to rank up in exploration, but not actually doing any.

Anyone else noticed this, or have comment?

Everybody needs a quick easy trophy. Now we just need the ingame button to share our rank ups and achievements on all our social media, because people need to see that stuff...oh, and they care too.

I thought I was the only one who didn't give a single flying fart about all those steam/facebook "achievements" :D

Update - I have done EIGHT sightseeing missions in two evenings. I've gone from 50% Pioneer to Elite.

Feel kind of cheated, was expecting to do a several thousand LY exploration trip at least to earn that Elite status. Instead I've hardly left the bubble (was expecting Trade rank increase, which I wanted to get before I went exploring again).

It's all about the value of them. High value sight seeing does indeed rank up Exploration pretty quickly. They are sometimes stupidly generous too - I got 9 million for 5 mins (3 jumps) yesterday. And the day before 25 million for ~ 20 jumps and a bit of system cruising. It feels like cheating... but then we all know what cheating really is...

I'm elite combat rank and allied to most of the factions where I'm taking the missions, so they all offer at least 5 Million, usually from 7 to 20 million per mission. I was here to gain some money for fitting out my shiny new Cutter, but instead I've finished ranking up in Exploration and it feels like a very hollow victory to finally reach elite exploration rank after 2 years of playing by carting passengers around the bubble.

I do think its somewhat unbalanced at the moment.

I think its right that the sightseeing missions reward exploration, but would set it lower at say 20% of reward rather than 50%. I have personally gone from 7% pioneer to 39% pioneer over the weekend.

At the moment its pretty much the exploration equivalent of massacre mission farming or Sothis runs.

One short sightseeing mission i took which was just to visit some old geysers not more than 200lyrs away paid me over 20 million credits.

As far as payment is concerned I thought that passenger mission payments were prerty poor. Not because they have been reduced but because other mission payments were buffed in the last patch. Considering how hard it is to stack passenger mussions I find I make much more on regular short trip delivery missions.
Currently cant see the point of getting a dedicared passenger ship.

sorry again explorers !

That's okay, we explorers are used to getting no respect from Frontier!

There has been a large thread in the exploration forum on this showing just how imbalanced it is, and I've seen at least one thread about it in the bugs forum, but there hasn't been any word by Frontier on it yet. Probably won't be, we can only assume it's intentional by the devs to encourage players to do passenger missions. One sightseeing passenger mission is basically equal to discovering 200 Earth like worlds with regards to rank progression. Sounds fair, right?

IMHO it seems to me like the rank gains from sightseeing passenger missions is upscaled by a factor of 10, like a dev has a decimal point moved one digit too far somewhere. It's happened before, particularly in a few CG's, where an extra zero to one side of a decimal point went live, so it's probably the case here again. So Elite in exploration is incredibly easy to get now, enjoy everyone!!!

I've raised a bug ticket over this as I'm sure the level of rank increase isn't intentional.

If you have experienced this and think it's unfair on the common garden variety explorers who spend months of game time in deep space for little financial and rank gain reward, please go and lend your voice to the ticket.

So you benefit from it, then want to ruin it?

I bet during the shoah you would have grassed up your neighbours

To put that in perspective, I got elite in exploration two days before 2.2.03 landed. I was at 77% Pioneer and cashed in 27m of exploration data which I'd collected during a 43,000 LY trip.

Uncalled for.
