Passenger Mission to find Secret Base in Sotuki Not Completable

I have done several passenger missions. I took one this time that involved taking a passenger to a "Secret Base" ostensibly located in the Sotuki system. After traveling there, it said that I would have to scan in order to find the secret base. I have an explorer ship, with all the recommended explorer scanners type A, and ran all around the system scanning everything I could find.

I used the FSS scanner and scanned every single signal. I flew to a bunch of planets, and used the Planetary Surface Scanner, even though NONE of the planets or moons in the system are landable. I flew to the Navigation Beacon near the single star in the system, and I flew to the visitor beacon (which was another place the passenger wanted to visit).

I have exhausted every scanning option I can think of, and my passenger is growing more and more unhappy.

Researching on-line, I find that Secret bases are generally found on planetary surfaces. However, none of the planets in the system can be landed on.

So, I believe this to be a "bug" in the game, that it assigned me a mission that there is no possibility of completing, causing me to waste hours of time. Before reporting it as a bug, I wanted to check and see if there is anything I am overlooking.

These kinds of questions get more activity in the newcomers section. But still...are you in the correct system? Is there a mission symbol on the system map or left nav panel? Tourist beacons show up when you're within 1000ls and usually orbiting the planet if you can't land. Even though it says "secret base" it will still be just a tourist beacon to scan. Also do you have more then one passenger mission running? You mentioned visiting the tourist beacon in the system at a passenger's request. Unless you have more then one mission going there will never be two locations in the same system for a single passenger. When you stopped at the nav beacon did you scan it? That's all I could think of. Hope it works out.

Yep, sorry, but there's no such thing as "secret bases" in this game. I assume you are in the Soontill system, which has a Tourist Beacon called "Secret Base". Your mission was to fly to the beacon, scan it, then take them home again. If you've scanned it, then you should be clear to go back to the station where you picked them up from.

Hello Mxpower76. Thanks for your reply it was helpful. I was confused by the mission description that listed: Assinda Vistor Beacon, HIP 10123 Visitor Beacon, Sotuki Visitor Beacon and Secret Base.

After visiting the third of these - Sotuki Visitor Beacon - then the text in the mission said "Body Currently Unknown Scan Required". I assumed from the grouping that the two final locations were both in the Sotuki system, and ran around scanning everything.

In the end, you were correct, there were not two objectives in the same system. The Secret base was in the Soontil system, as another poster indicated.

Hello Sapyx. Thanks for your reply - the Secret Base was in the Soontil system. I was confused by the way the mission objectives were presented, which seemed to imply that the final two objectives were both in the same system - Sotuki.

After reading your post, I flew to Soontil, found the Secret Base, scanned it, and was able to complete the mission - albeit at a significant decrease in reward, because the passenger was very unhappy several days later.
