Passenger missions and rank

I'm really not understanding this at all!

I get they have been nerfed but it just feels totally random... I'm 6% away from Elite rank and am doing short(ish) Haul passenger missions to finish up, as I am travelling tomorrow and won't be able finish longer missions.

Example 1. I complete a mission and get paid 8.5 million credits = 2% jump in exploration rank
Example 2. I complete a mission and get paid 8.5 million credits = 0% jump in exploration rank
Example 3. I complete a mission and get paid 9.1 million credits -= 0% jump in exploration rank

Clearly that can't be right???

My last two mission netted 17 million and that wasn't worth even 1%?

Anyone else tested this?

I would be interested to know as well. 2.3 was my first use of passenger missions.

I think the type of passenger might have smoething to do with it - I'm pathfinder, so my "granularity" of rank contribution is mote sensative than your bar heading to Elte. I have a feeling the multi-stage tourist mssions contributed more to my rank than the single stage missions or the other soirts of passengers. They also look pretty useful for reducing negative states in the BGS, but your probably not to concerned about that :)

Got to say I like them, by the way, cannot believe I ignored them for so long.

You raise a good point but the two missions were of the same three part composition... even the distances were similar.

Well that does not make any sense. Might be worth keeping an eye on the rep and influence the missions give as well. The number of "+" actually works now. I hasten to add, no expert, and speculating, but I wonder if one of the missions gave more influence or rep than the other, so did not contribute as much to rank?

I saw variation in refugee missions for infulence and quantity, but the same mission template, and roughly the same payout.

Never thought of + rep making a difference but that could explain it.

Update... 16 million credits worth of passenger missions later and I'm still on 94%!

If this isn't a bug it sucks!
Going to contact support and see what they say.

A crown icon? Can you provide a screenshot?

Probably not at the moment - I'll see if I can google one.

EDIT - good old google huh

Just checked in myself and unfortunately 95% of the passenger missions have the crown icon, barring a few one way transport missions and some prisoner of war transfers. The missions I've been doing would have had the crown. So either this is nerfed beyond all reason or it's a bug. Either way I'm done... travelling up north to see the folks for a week and then back to Saudi so won't be hitting Elite any time soon.

Passenger missions with a crown generally come with an Explorer rank requirement (you'll see it on the left side of the detailed description). These should contribute to your explorer rank.

The bulk passenger missions generally have a Trader rank requirement, and (I assume) contribute to your trader rank, just like hauling missions.

Since we're just out of patch though and the rank contribution is something they deliberately nerfed, it's possible that it's a bit broken right now... Keep monitoring it and report it as a bug if it persists. And then pray that Senpai decides to take notice and fix it.

I think I'll just head back to Into the black once I'm back in Saudi... really wanted that Elite rank though!

This is true as well, the massive advancement in exploration rank that 2.2 had for these missions has been removed. I took a couple of missions after a few months break from Elite. Added nothing to my exploration rank. Then I saw one for 80 million, it was a long way out but I felt like just heading off out anyway.

When I got back the difference it made to that accounts exploration rank was insane, I mean it almost put me to Elite from Ranger. Which is a bit ridiculous.

On the plus side I believe payout for actual exploration has been increased so you'll get that rank faster from actual exploration.

Nerfed is fine but not to the point where it has no effect. I'm a numbers guy and would just like to know that what I am doing will get the desired effect I am looking for. Don't need the cash, but if it no longer is an appropriate way to rank up then they should tell us.

DEVS: could you please post some numbers somewhere on how stuff in game actually works? I saw a really cool exploration chart the other day made by a player on new prices for scanning different objects. Must've taken them hours to make! Whilst that is greatly appreciated, it shouldn't be necessary. Even in game our ship computers should be able to tell you this stuff!

Grumps off to see parents up North having "wasted" the last few days trying to hit Elite :p

Well, the scan pay has been massively increased, but I'm not sure whether the ranking numbers have been maintained or increased. Last time they increased exploration payouts, they upped the bar for each rank.

400k for terraformable HMC is insane, there's tons of them all over the place. It's going to be great for new players getting early into exploration, they'll actually make decent money out of it!

Yeah I'm planning on heading out to Colonia over the bank holiday weekend - was thinking I'd race my way there but that might have just changed! :)
