Passenger Missions: Buying Ship vs. Freelance Pilot

Personally I'm excited about passenger missions, however (looking at the 2 mill in my wallet) not excited about having to buy a gazillion dollar ship to do them. Frankly, I don't think I'll ever be able to do that.

So my question is, what about allowing ourselves the ability to Freelance our piloting skills rather than having to own a ship? The captain of a cruise line doesn't have to buy that big boat in order to go to work.

So how would this work? Allow us to hire-out our pilot skills to passenger liner companies. The company would provide the ship and take a hefty cut off the top. A rental fee of a sorts...much the same way Taxi's work (at least in the United States). Of course we need to be sure pilots will treat the ship as if it's their own property so we can institute heavy fines for a loss of a passenger liner, as well as being banned from taking passenger missions for a certain period of time. Repeat offenders may be even permanently banned from taking those mission in that (and possibly surrounding) systems.

Of course there would still be a great benefit of actually owning your own ship in that you would not have to worry about the hefty rental fee, but this system would allow poorer pilots to take the missions and begin doing them to save up for someday owning their own craft.

Thoughts?

You will still be able to participate in passenger missions, just not the luxury kind :) they will be transported in stasis I believe.

Career as a paid pilot without owning the ship?
Fine idea as of right this second. Doubt I would do it but all game play avenues (as long as they are "semi-realistic") are welcome in my book.

Sure, how many pilots working for British Airways or United actually own a 747? Considering what they get paid, not many.

Sure, and that's all well and good. But allowing pilots to sort of Freelance with these liner companies not only makes this content available to all players but it also fills out the world a bit by adding these type of direct contact working companies. Something beyond just mission agents. It also allows another viable career option for new players. Provided they know how to fly of course. ;)
