On two occasions while on a multi-part missions I was uncertain if I could move on to the next destination or not. For example, today my passenger wanted to goto a visitor beacon in the first system on our two-stop itinerary. When I got to it and scanned it the client messaged me to take him to another system and planet (our 2nd stop) to look at some planetary geysers. Which I quickly found. And I landed next to them, and flew low and close to and all around them. The passenger never said another word. So I took him back to the station, and failed the mission - because he was still waiting to go see those geysers.

This is the second time I failed one of these missions because I couldn't tell what to look for, how to tell when a stage in the mission was done to the "client's" satisfaction. So.. can someone give me a few pointers?

I have done about 200 passenger missions and agree that it can be confusing as to when to move on. Sometimes you don't get the 'take me to my next...' message until after you have decided to move on anyway.

What I do to get around this is check on the galaxy map and see if the next destination has the little orange icon (with the globe) on it. If it has I have found it is always safe to move on...if not then I hang around until I get the message. I have also found that if an object needs scanning (visitor beacons etc.) then I have to go into the Sub Target pane in the left panel to get it to complete. I hope this helps a bit, there is nothing worse than going back home only to find you have earned diddly squat!

Cheers, GD

You can also open the mission in the Transactions tab. From what I've seen, it updates almost instantly after you scan a beacon/etc. Then "open map", and start on your way.

As Grandad mentioned, most of the time, you're already counting down to jump before you get the message.

Okay let me get this straight..
When you suggest to check the galaxy map for the next destination with it's orange globe, I would like to know how the next destination is selected on your map ? - because aside from multiple jump points along a calculated route, I would have to manually type in the name of the next system, and enter it in the galaxy map once the current mission-leg is complete. Are you saying that the next destination in this case would be selected and entered by the passenger for me?

Because otherwise how could it be there in the first place (to have it's color auto-changed once the leg of the mission is done and it's time to move on?).

Did you somehow pre enter waypoints for more than one destination at a time?
How are you doing it, please? A little more detail on how this works would be most welcome.

Thanks.

In all the missions I've done where the passenger wants to see geysers there's been a beacon nearby to scan.

What kind of beacon are you referring to?

I have noticed that too, and I do check there for the next destination; only I wasn't sure if that was reliable. As there is sometimes a delay before the passenger signals me to move on, I assumed that the transaction pane might also suffer from those delays as well.

Hi, today I picked up a passenger mission that needed to visit geysers as part of the itinerary. When I got very near the planet there was a land based beacon near the geysers that I had to target (it was marked with the faint grey < > ). I scanned it and got the info message. I checked the galaxy map and the orange indicator had changed to the next system. I made the first jump of 6 and it wasn't until I was fuel scooping in that system that I got the message that the passenger was satisfied and that it was okay to move on.
The mission was in all about 18 jumps and was worth 3.5 million credits. It took me about 40 minutes to do so not a bad return at all. I wish I could make money that quick in real life!

Can you tell me if I should expect the passenger to message me at each leg’s successful conclusion ‘before I should move on? That would make things a lot easier to manage - even if I have to wait around for an indeterminate time before they do so. At least I’d know what I need to do. :D

They always tell when you succeed, on those ice geysers there is no need to even land. Hover over them and target the geyser and scan it just as you would a beacon.

Hi.
I do a lot of passenger mission and it tok me some time to learn what to do at different locations. I also did not know that you have to scan the visitor beacon, or stay in conflict zones the amount of time in the mission description. It just display a time, tok me a while to figure out that this was the time i'd had to stay on the site.
