passenger missions

With passenger missions are collect data missions considered sightseeing. Will I get exploration rank for them? All the sightseeing missions I see with that term in the heading offer no reward. But the collect data ones have tons of rewards..

Anyone know?

Scanning the systems on the way and back, all go towards explorer rank and I believe, that there is some form of bonus to said rank, when completing said missions.

Edit:- Doing the sightseeing missions are not as cost/profit effective, as the shorter 'delivery' missions.

Sightseer missions goes towards explorer rank curently, apparenty this will change once 2.3 drops so less rank from them. Right now is possible to gain elite rank fairly quickly without leaving the bubble.

Yes they do.

Rule of thumb is 'transport' missions is trade rank and are one way only, like a delivery.

Sightseeing and expedition, including collect data are exploration rank based. They are also all return journeys.

The rank requirement for each mission is what you will gain rank in. So if a mission recommends you should have a certain exploration rank (i.e. Pathfinder) you will gain exploration rank, likewise if it recommends a trade rank you get trade rank boost.

The amount of rank gained is getting a nerf in 2.3, currently a mission reward is worth about 50% of equivalent credits of scans.

For all the missions, if you look on the left of the description where the elite symbol is, orange is combat white is trade and blue is exploration. It's the same colors on your right panel.
