Passenger Ship Question About Cargo

With 3.0 and the changes made to rewards. Can we now do any passenger mission without needing a cargo hold? My Orca that I've updated to 3.0 engineering still has a 4t cargo space only for accepting missions pre 3.0. Since you not can choose materials or credits instead of commodities, can you still accept those missions and it just greys out the commodity option?

Reason I'm asking is I'm close by the engineer to fast Detailed Surface Scanner, and would rather replace the cargo spot with that if I can. I just don't want to waste the mats only to find out I can't accept many missions at all without it, as it was in 3.0...

You should be fine without any cargo holds now. I've yet to see a mission reward with more than one of the three offering a commodity.

Feel free to be like everyone else in the galaxy and replace all those upper-class cabins with Economy cabins, but there's no reason you can't fit passengers AND a little bit of cargo space (it's not always Mission Rewards - sometimes Passengers ask for cargo items that aren't only sold on the other side of the galaxy, and offer enough bonus credits that it's not a waste of fuel to stop and pick up).

Well that's a whole other thing, I'm trying to figure out what to do with my Orca. I thought I could easily pull it out of storage and do a number of passenger missions just to get some quick mats. I forgot how limited space the Orca has compared to say a Python for that sort of thing. Except my Python passenger Python is out in Colonia.

And yeah, I'm thinking of just switching them to Economy, at least for the near future just to get some mats taken care of, then I'll switch it back and then maybe enjoy some luxury/first class passenger fun.

In the mean time I'm tempted just to buy yet another Python for Bubble passenger transport instead and just engineer that up instead of screwing around with my Orca...

I have always had 4 tonso f cargo space on my Dolphin. It allows me to do the "tour of tourist locations inside the bubble" missions. They always want 4 tons of domestic appliance, occassionally clothes (go on, who does not nuy cheap clothing on holiday?) .

I'm actually realizing that I'm not going to find 4 economy passengers most likely with any missions so it's almost pointless to even bother with an Economy cabin, unless I have all economy cabins on the ship. So I'll probably just use the 4t cargo bay then instead. Seems to make the most sense then from what you and the others have stated...
