Passenger Sightseeing Missions

So, I recently started doing passenger missions in my Dolphin and it makes "OK" money. But I saw sightseeing missions make you hella more money.. how exactly do you do them? Someone tod me you have to like scan things but what do you scan?

I also don't think I have a scanner in my dolphin or I do just don't know how to put it on. Is it called Data Scanner? If so, please tell me how to equip it and how to do the sightseeing missions.

Thanks!

You get the higher paying ones once you hit Allied with the factions in the system and the sightseeing missions that make you quick money are the one stop then back ones out at Sothis and Ceos. The other ones that go out like 20000ly pay well but you need to kinda "exploit" the mission system to make those go quick.

Missions asking for a "Scan" don't really require a Scanner or any form or sort.

You''ll find a Tourist Beacon in the Destination System, either in Deep Space or on a Planet Surface. Just lock it up (like you'd lock a Ship or a Station), it'll scan it for ~10sec and that'll complete that Mission part.
Then you can head back home (unless it's a Tourist Mission requiring several Systems to be visited).

Generally, the LongRange Passenger Missions pay very poor compared to local alternatives and considering some of the extreme distances they often require.
Plus, a very few Tourist locations are in Systems which require a tremendous JumpRange on the Ship to reach. So one must very carefully check the location to see if it's such an "edge case".

Especially if you're never traveled several thousand LY, I'd stay well clear of these.

On top, great care must be taken if the Passenger type is Secretive. Any single scan by an NPC (and those can spawn near Tourist Beacons and in other unexpected places) can fail the Mission.
(quite a few were busy taking Screenshots, only to hear a totally unexpected "Scan Detected" ... or just before the Mission was to be completed at the Station, caused by a Patrol Fighter or a random NPC... you don't ever want to hear that after traveling 10000 LY or more with a Secretive Passenger ;) )

Lots of people have covered this, I don't think this is the actual video I found but this should give you the basics. Personally I keep a shield on and use a docking computer for speed/ease. I also avoid any missions with red text, it's not worth the hassle. I'll do this once a week to make 100 million which covers miscellaneous expenses and puts a bit in the bank for the next project I have.

The caveat with ALL money making is that you will need to have good rank and/or allied status with the factions wherever you are grinding for credits.

If you want to make a few million without worrying about rank/allied status, equip a ship with an advanced discovery scanner and a detailed surface scanner. Then pick a road to riches route using this tool; http://edtools.ddns.net/expl.php . I would advise solo/private group if you're going around the bubble as if you are murdered before you get to hand in the cartographic data you will lose it all.

Do you mean the "Advanced discovery scanner" ? If thats the case you'll have to buy it and equip it like you did with the cabins and designate it to a fire button. That way you can "honk" every system you visit and sell exploration data when you return. IMO you should never set out on a passenger mission without it, as you have to fuel scoop anyway, doesn't require any more time and can easily double your money. A "Detailed surface scanner" could triple/quadruple your more, but is much more time consuming.

Tourist missions have a beacon to scan, but you just use the stock ship scanner.
There's usually some text about the sightseeing destination that will appear in your coms and there are often good photo ops.

If you're carrying a criminal this is a prime time to be scanned yourself, and subsequently attacked.
I kind of like that aspect!

Yeah, just wasnt sure what OT was referring to. I thought he was wondering how to get more money out of passenger missions. Scanning the beacon as I recall it, is a matter of getting paid at all?

Anyways... Fly wise o7

What is odd is in some systems, the beacon won't show up as a target on your nav panel.
At least you can figure it out from the transactions tab.
Freeholm Victory, I am looking at you!

They only show up when you're within 1000ls of the beacon. That goes for everything besides celestial bodies and space stations.

^ that's it. If I'm ever flying without an ADS and doing anything but passing through a system I'll scan the nav beacon. Of course this only applies in an inhabited system but if I'm looking around a system that's not inhabited then I'm exploring and will have an ADS.

Thank you, Commander! This was exactly what I needed to know.

Passenger sightseeing missions blow. I tried it and ditched it - they aren't easily stackable, no-one gets along with anyone else, they all want wine when all you have is beer and they all want to jump ship without paying at the first sniff of a fart in the executive bathroom or a bad egg in the gally! Space the lot of 'em I say!!!

Still not nerfed after 3.3 update...
