Newcomer / Intro Passengers: how to give them their stuff, and how to track my history with them?

So I started doing Passenger missions, and I had one ask me to go pick up a "Food Canister" for them. So, I found a port, bought a Food Canister... but I didn't see any method to give it to them from my cargo. I finished the mission, got them back and I assumed maybe when I completed it it'd take it? But no, it's still in my cargo.
The ONLY thing that makes me wonder, is in the message the passenger sent me, there is a checkmark option to reply (along with the back and trash buttons), but it's not responding to any attempt to click it.
Is that the way to give them their request? And why might it not have allowed me to once I had it?

2nd, I saw elsewhere someone posted a pick of their Passenger stats, like, the number of happy passengers and more? I'm looking in my Codex, in the Stats section, but the most that has is counts of how many accepted, delivered, rejected, etc. Nothing about the trips themselves or satisfaction, etc. Can that be found somewhere? Or did I just completely mis-see what I thought I recalled seeing?

Thanks!!

The most straightforward way to deal with passengers is to treat them like any other sort of cargo, pick them up and deliver them to the station listed in the original contract while ignoring all strange messages while they are on board.

aRJay is correct, if you try to satisfy a request of one passenger you will off the other passengers. Just deliver them to the original destination.

Heh, understood :D But be that as it may, I'm still curious to know the mechanics, if you will, of fulfilling those passenger needs, should I decide I must :)

Basically they ask for stuff, so you redirect to the nearest starport the sells what they want. Buy it, then continue. You do of course need cargo racks to accomodate the stuff they want. Which is a reason for ignoring their demands.

While you are doing that though, other passengers might take it into their heads to ask for stuff.

For quick A to B missions you can just ignore it safely.

For sightseeing missions around the bubble it can become a real pain and i tend to avoid those who say they are demanding.

OK, so the question remains, why it didn't work when I tried? They asked for one Food Container -- I bought 4 and filled a cargo rack with them. There was no indication the side-quest was fulfilled. Nor that anything went wrong. But it doesn't look like it worked.

As far as I remember, you need to click that button. The passenger will than fetch the stuff from the cargo hold when available there. Don't know why it does not work for you.

You do need to accept their request first via the comms message.
Right, with the back, delete, and checkmark buttons? That's what I mean, the checkmark button was deactivated for me, it wouldn't click.
But what I'm hearing is that that IS the way it's SUPPOSED to work -- there wasn't anything else or another screen that I needed. Just click that (when it lets you!) and go get the thing asked for, done deal. OK, cool, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some other mechanic I was missing. Thanks for the replies!

From what I've read, you have three options: hit that checkmark and accept their request, give them finger by hitting that red cross or ignore them... If you hit that checkmark and get them what they want, you increase their happiness by one level... If you give them finger, you decrease their happiness by one level... If you ignore them, there is supposedly no change in their happiness... But take it with a grain of salt, I haven't done any passenger mission... :)

Not sure why checkmark wasn't available.

Flavor to taste, but my method is to ignore any 'mission critical' messages. And by that I don't mean just not meeting the request, but not even opening the message to begin with. This is the key to trouble-free passenger hauling in my view. Our contract was for you to get on board, and me to drop you at the destination. The rest is unwanted distraction and fail potential. Keep yer trap zipped.

I've done hundreds of passenger runs and have zero disgruntled or ejected. Get aboard, shut the 'ell up, and get off. That's the deal. If you want to pay me more for getting you there fast, that's on you, and I won't know about it anyway until I turn in the mission. If I could disable passenger compartment to cockpit communicatons I would without a second thought.

Irrational passenger demands distracting you from your job? Sounds like you need to get yourself one of these signs.

I think what you are asking is why they don't accept the cargo when you drop them off? I found that you need to accept their request before getting their goods and before dropping them off. I have done Passenger missions in the Dolphin & Orca passenger ships, some of the crazy requests can send you well out of your way, you'll need to check the map to see if it's do-able depending upon your time constraints. I usually do 50/50 of the requests if I feel like it and have time, (and the cargo space) to earn the bit extra they give.
Hmmm, it's been a few sleeps now, but yeah, maybe that's it.... maybe I waited too long to try to accept... anyway, I'm just glad to know my main question is answered -- the full and proper mechanic is to indeed just hit the check and then get the stuff. Just wanted to know whether I was doing something wrong or not looking in the right place.
Thanks!

When an item is requested just click on the accept check mark.Once the trip is over the passenger will collect and pay for the item. Just try not to take missions for passengers that are wanted or private . getting scanned will decrease their happiness to a point where they will end the trip and you won't get paid. Also wanted people will possibly get you blown up if you happen to try to land on their banned stations.Just take as many Hutton orbital missions as you can.FOR THE MUG!!!

:O OMG I WANT that mug!! LOL Is it for real? Can I really buy it if I make it to Hutton?? :O

...oh and yeah, I wondered about the wanted passengers. :( Sadly, pretty much most to nearly all of the passengers of my preferred minor faction jobs are wanted. :/
I'd considered taking those, but I had to do some Googling about how not to get scanned. Yikes! That's some pretty trixy flying to approach and enter the bay of a station to keep from getting scanned. I may give it a try since I have the rebuy ... :)

Also, if you are in a system that the passenger is wanted, Authority vessels can scan and pull you out of supercruise and shoot on sight! Not pretty in a non fighting passenger vessel!
Oh wait... I'm still pretty new and have not had to face Authority ships... even in an armed ship, is it even possible to survive an Authority ship attack?? I thought that was an unwinnable encounter.
And even if you can, wouldn't shooting on Auth ships mark you wanted and shoot on sight by them anywhere, wanted passengers on board or not?

it's a fast engine boost away and keep running until you can make that jump back into supercruise and a hasty plan to where to jump to... I would n't take on the Authority vessels, like you say, you don't want to be classed as wanted as well or your ship noted.
Ah, got it. OK, so to see if I understand this right... for a wanted passenger to become unhappy and possibly even end the job, we only need to be scanned by an Auth ship -- even if I can boost and get away. Being shot at by them isn't even necessary?
(If this is correct, then that would explain some of the advice I'm seeing on how to zip into the "mail slot" before a scan "completes".)
