PvP Passionate post about Gankers (Warning- Gloves are off)

Well there was something here but now it is not as I perhaps was a smidge too vocal about my distaste in the ganker community... But that has since been solved-ish. for the time being. making use to change it now before it devolves into chaos and despair....and so that no-one quotes it hopefully. :D

How are you?

Nope. Playing in the Asia-Pacific time zone has its advantages.

I used to be worried about getting smashed playing in open for the first three weeks after buying the game. Then I went to open to see how bad it was, and never bothered going back to solo. It's most probably my time zone and location.

I treat the "griefers" and gankers as a force of nature. You do not reason with the wind, you either seek shelter from it or disassemble it at the atomic level with hot plasma. I don't need to know why they do what they do, just either leave or shoot back.

Afterwards however, I may have a conversation. I find typing is difficult when flying in a combat situation.

Yep, let's hand a gun a badge and the power of life and death over to a man who can't tell the difference between reality and a video game that not only enables the gameplay he whines about but also actively encourages it. I'm sure this will turn out well.

I wonder what’s going to happen when he realizes how badly that power is abused out there in the real world.

Hope you’ve got a stiff drink handy, OP.

Ooh, I was hoping we wouldn't head in that direction but hey it was inevitable :)

Was anticipating this sort of response, Did I not just cover this sort of argument in the post? :D I am pretty sure I know the difference between a game and RL, it's more the mindset that bothers me regardless of medium used. I assure you I am quite responsible with most matters, just needed to let off steam with this one. :D " power of life and death" is perhaps a long stretched statement in this country... I swear I will get fired for sneezing one day... and using a gun at any stage would be a literal end of career here.. with perhaps even jail time as a bonus... :D

Still gave you rep though, I did leave myself open didn't I? :D

Another gankers thread? Sure, why not? Plenty of popcorn at hand, 5 posts and I'm already amused.

Z...

Yeah these posts have a habit of being heated... still think I should be said though. However these reoccurring posts must mean something right? people don't complain about nothing? :)

It is a bit shameful when I hear stories of it, seeing it first hand will not be a good experience. however I know that if I stick by my values everything will work out ok... I hope. :D

If a 'GAME' rustles your jimmies this much, i dread to think what you will be like with a badge...

Hey man, I think this case it is 'hate the player, not the game' Elite is fine....oh wait a sec...

I have come to realise that a lot of you don't share the same outlook on this as I do. you see I am not viewing elite as a game, just as a medium for abuse ( No different to cyberbullying on social media) And abuse in ANY form is unacceptable. and I will always defend those who are victim to it. so keep the snide remarks coming! it isn't going to change my values! :D

I can't quite agree there.

Elite offers you freedom of choice. You can choose to play on your own, or with trusted friends, or with complete randoms who will love nothing MOAR than exploding you for the lulz and refining your salty rebuys for even MOAR lulz. You can only be "abused" - and that's a horribly improper term here - if you choose it.

There are no victims in Elite even when n00bs are exploded by the gunkiest tramp-stinking murderhobos who stream it live on wherever and send sympathy condolences of "git gud scrublord" whilst wetting their strangely discoloured and threadbare undergarments laughing.

You can choose to enjoy the game your way. Solo, PG, Open, whatever you like, for any game session you like. You can even choose to be a lulz extractor. Choose your own choices.

Don't assume my gender.

I am genuinely worried about your perception of reality and how that translates into the consideration of being someone that people turn to in their time of need, nothing snide about that.

Edited for a typo.

That was an insightful way of putting it! +rep :)

I mean we all have our views when it come to different topics. I have had more than my fair share of injustice in the past... and it's almost like an anxiety trigger when something reminds me of it again. I think what is missing here is just a wide gap in what is right and what is wrong. (0% punishment for criminals, 110% punishment for the victims) Perhaps I took it too seriously and on a too in depth level???

It's not even really missing. You have available the ultimate gap in what you consider right and wrong. Play Solo if you like to do so, play Open if you like to do so, find some people you enjoy playing with, block the lulzbunnies, or form a Private Group and completely exclude them.

*Git Gud at Level 3 and watch them absolutely squirm and wail and gnash their milk teeth at their utter powerlessness ;) I don't recommend it though - as that is taking things to a different level that isn't in-game and can cause, urm, erm, issues with certain elements of the playerbase.

Of course, their opinion is worth exactly how much they recompense you with cheques for your gametime, electricity costs and network bandwidth that you spend on them ;)

Well it did have a snide tone with it...then again it's really hard to get tone with posts on forums as it is literally text. you could of been joking and here I am being all picky about it. :D

Thanks for you concern though!!! I assure you there is nothing to worry about at all.... just dislike bullies if you haven't already noticed :D

OP:
Just look closely at this post:
Ganking is the best thing in Elite. I love blowing up squishy trader ships.

You know when they throttle down, because they're about to combat log? And you just melt them with your OC screening frags? Awesome.

Or when they go to high-wake, and you grom them... Nothing beats it.

How about when you ram them to death, without even using weapons? Spectacular.

Make sure when you get into ganking, never, ever say anything in chat before you slaughter them. That's called role-playing, and that's a big no-no.

That's the mindset of a griefer.
Simply put it's childish behaviour of immature individual. Maybe they're really young, or really, really simple.
The sad reality of MMO game is that by having open doors it lets every kind of player in. People that take pleasure in spoiling others game too.
And there's little you can do about it. Talking to them makes no sense, they'll only laugh back at you.

You can only learn to adapt. And I don't mean "git gud". Just either ignore, avoid, change modes, or explain their in-game existence in in-game terms.
I personally learned to treat them like characters from Anthony Burgess' "A Clockwork Orange". They might not like to roleplay, but for me they do splendid job anyway :D

This has to be one of the calmest posts here after that dilemma... I saw that post and didn't even grace it with a response. (As i have brushed with that VERY SAME player in open...and is one of the few on my block list. :D)

I think this post puts it nicely! although i do wish a proper C&P is added (one that actually punishes criminals...and not players defending the Gnosis only to get blown up buy a single bullet chipping the paint of the ship.... :D)

Right, here's the thing. I'man 80's kid. In my day, games were HARD. Like, hardly anyone ever finished them hard. Elite, which I first played on my Atari ST in about 89(?) was an absolute female dog. Docking, for starters... The first goal in Elite was a docking computer, that, right there, saved youmore deaths than any other single module. to date, the Coriolis station of 1984 is the grand daddy of all gankers. CMDR Potter will never reach that number of ganks. Ever. Next, was the escape pod. Because if you died in Elite, you died. An escape pod gave you a life. They weren't cheap, and I never did find a way to make 87m cr/hr. Just quietly, I'd love to see the concept of the escape pod brought back...

Basically, I'm accustomed to games making my life difficult. And yet, as a kid, my dream was to play Elite -with other people. Good, bad or ugly. I've been here since Beta 2.4, and I've been ganked twice. Once in the Beta, and once by a CMDR that is now infamous for dumb fire and in station ganks. And I went there on purpose - so it's on me.

That's it. Those two ganks taught me situational awareness. That you need to be one with your ship, and be capable of flying it under stress. That nothing is worse for your cr/hr than a re-buy screen.

Git Gud gives me a chuckle too, but it does have substance. It doesn't have to mean Git Gud at combat. It just means Git Gud at something that let's you survive. If that means engineering 8000pts for hull, so be it. Or keeping an eye on the scanner for hollow squares - especially the ones with hardpoints deployed (these are hollow triangles).

Git Gud at telling jokes so funny, CMDR Ganker will be laughing too hard to pull the trigger.

Perhaps it's having mad evasion skills. Super awesome stealth. I mean, Git Gud at pressing "Solo" or "Private Group, if that's what it takes. Just Git Gud at something.

Personally, I suck at PvP combat. I simply don't have the time to invest to really excel. But I'm damn good at being evasive. I keep an eye on my scanner, my builds are generally cold and fast, if lightly shielded and armoured. I favour stealth, speed and agility to save my butt, and it's worked out fine so far.

Perhaps it's just that I come from a time when you learned to take responsibility, because if a "slippery when wet" sign was not out, it didn't mean that you are immune to slipping and breaking an arm.

Regardless, does the current C&P seem inadequate? Yup, sure does. I also think "low sec Anarchy" and "Hi Sec Democracy" shouldn't feel like the same thing. The original Elite really let you know it when you jumped into an Anarchy system. Anyway, my point is, harping on about gankers is just feeding the troll. The tears are what they want, and here we are, giving them juicy salt filled tears.

But hey, you know what? Nothing is as tasty as ganker tears, because you got gud and got away.

There are an enormous amount of tools and strategies to deal with adversarial players in this game (whether they cross the line of bullying or not). We need to stop lamenting what we can't change and get on with the work of what can be done.
