Passive income

I'd be completely against passive income that allows a player to simply log off for 6 months and log back into the game with millions or billions of credits simply by "not playing".

The point of the game is to engage with the game, not "disengage" with it.

Introduction of any sort of passive income system should require frequent interaction of some sort- a player would need to log in and do something in order to keep it going.

That said- if passive income were to be introduced somehow, it would need to be severely restricted to amounts far less than what you'd normally earn by completing missions or CG's (in which a player needs to actively play in order to earn credit bonuses) or award simple cosmetic items that do not affect game balance in any way.

In general my view would be no.

Simply because for any kind of passive income you need assets such as npcs to fly ships and ships for them to fly. By the tme a player has several ships that take npc crew, they really don't need help to make money. So most of these types of schemes suggested help those that already have loads of assets.

However if it was implemented then I could live with it IF there is also the risk your NPC's screw up and LOSE money, or ships. There is already far too much protection of aessts in the game with a player assumption that they will only ever get MORE.

Agreed. While I do like passive income sources, it's simoly not needed in ED anymore. Swimming in billions of credits and assets and 10+ fully G5 engineered PvP ships plus some more half-way engineered non-PvP ships, assets is nothing of value. You'd have to kill me 200+ times to even come close to losing a ship or two I can't afford to rebuy.
And that assumes a rebuy of atleast 5-10 million credits.

What we need now is endgame content.

If you want "passive" income in ED, just do powerplay, get 10k merits and keep those at 10k every week. You get 50mil per week.

Passive income would be overkill since it's already damn easy to make money.

how yall feel about it? if you could hire npcs to trade?

with the game as it is... personally no i would not be a fan......... that said. if elite had a really tight economy and if npcs had risks associated with doing stuff on their own, and we had to be on hand to keep an eye on things, (ie so no logging out or going to bed when its idle) then i think it could be interesting..... but the way it stands.... no imo it just would not work. credits are already laughably broken and i would hate for them to be even more irrelevant.

I think this would shift Elite in a very different direction, not incompatible with what we have but certainly different.
Right now I don't think this would be a great idea - lets get the core experience more fleshed out and refined and then perhaps circle back to this and how it might fit in.
I'd like to be able to hire NPCs as wing mates and we can already hire NPC as (very limited) crew, its not a huge stretch to think about contracting out other things... Still, one thing at a time.

I'd give OK only if poor decisions lead to money loss.

But judging by the current payout rates for various activities and overal payout balance - I can easilly say NO to this.

"if I want passive income try powerplay" no. if I wanted to engage in worthless gameplay I would go powerplay
"then play x4"no.

It would a different game

agreed and...

so is Space Legs, so I dont see why not.

agreed.

I haven't played Euro Truck simulator but as I understand it, the end-game there is, you start hiring NPC drivers and managing them. What if the true end-game for Elite Dangerous is owning a mega ship and dozens of T9s along with NPC crew to send on missions. Maybe owning a surface base too. Basically you'd be your own minor faction.

Definitely a different game, but also, definitely interesting.

Honestly I love the idea of being able to hire NPC's and manage fleets to make you money when you're offline. Give some utility to your unused assets.

I'd buy 40 Type-9s and hire 40 NPCs and watch the credits roll in each time I log on :D

PLOT TWIST

All your NPC's and their T9's fly in Open where any CMDR can pirate/destroy them leaving you with a ton of insurance payments when you log back in.

PLOT TWIST PART 2, THE SEQUEL:

You suffer a freak thumb accident which prevents you from playing for 6 weeks. You can't log in and manage your 40 Type 9's and the trade routes you've assigned them. You return to find that they've moved so many tons of biowaste to sell at their destination terminals that you're now taking a 1000cR/ton loss instead of that 6cR/ton profit you were 6 weeks ago.

I REALLY wish that naysayers would stop pooping on good ideas just because they themselves aren't imaginative enough to see how it could work. People like that give passes to FDEV to be lazy for years compared to their competitors.

I would like some sort of passive income, mainly I`m thinking about mining outposts that you could deploy (like the one we can already find on planets) that would collect some materials for ya. But I guess its heresy and "go play EVE stuff... ehhhh I`m out.
