Patcher DL Speeds :(

Install via Steam if possible. Was done in 20 minutes for me. Via FD i have 0.01 to 0.05 mb/s.

Edit:

Steam is only 1.5 i know. But better this than nothing...

How to install via steam? I bought the game from FD's store a few months back so assume that's the only option available to me.

I don't get it........ :(

When you download something from the Internet, it's anything but a straight network connection as there are many factors that you don't know about or understand. It's a chain and the fastest speed is the slowest link in that chain, not necessarily the source of the download. But, the source is easy to blame and requires no proof, hence threads like this. Also, understand that Speedtest results are heavily contrived and don't always reflect the reality, especially if you don't choose the correct destination.

I had the issues mentioned above for the Beta. So reading all this, I expect the same for the production version. I never did get the thing downloaded, after hours and hours of trying.

So what steps should I follow for a successful download this time?

Note : I don't have the game on Steam.

I might as well share the joy. I followed these instructions from babelfisch:

Go to https://www.frontierstore.net/ login and you'll find 'partner keys' on the left hand navigation panel. There should be a green button 'retrieve horizons steam key' or something like that, klick on it and copy the key. Open steam and klick on '+ add game' in the lower left corner, enter the horizons key and it should add it to the library.

Now downloading @ 1.8mbps :D

Amazon pay precisely as much tax as they are legally required to. Your problem is with HMRC and the EU, not with Amazon.

Since HMRC can only collect tax which is legally due and that is what they pay, the problem doesn't lie with them. HMRC enforce tax legislation, they don't make it.

It's been two days trying to download Horizons now; still hardly made a dent in the download bar.
Three day queue on support tickets ... sigh. It's enough to make one return to Eve Online.

Grabbed Horizons today and the DL speed is a joke. Going at best 0.20MB/s but goes down to 0.02MB/s.

Have tested download speed to other locations around the work and get my normal 2.00MB/s. Horrible download servers.

A great way to handle large updates like this is to allow the patcher to upload a lot of the data over the preceding week, and to use P2P as well. That way you can front load a lot of the data, and on go live day just make a small update for any last minute emergencies for the release.

Whilst that may be true, the commonality in most of these posts is the download of ED updates from FD. Most posters, myself included, have fast internet connections and have no problems downloading various large and/or installation files from any other source. This means, ergo, there is a de facto problem with FD servers. There can be no other conclusion.

5 hours and counting... not even halfway there yet! I re-subbed to SWTOR downloaded the huge expansion in mere minutes, and played that for a quite enjoyable few hours.

Some MMOs will do mini patches the week before and save the last activation bit for launch day; might be a smarter way to go, especially for something this huge. Or, use Amazon Cloud services and expand servers for the big expansions.
