Pathfinding is difficult to understand

So I decided to try and explore out to the Sol system from my current location in Eranin. I took a look at which direction Sol is from my current location, equipped a fuel scoop on my Sidewinder, pointed my ship at the nearest system between me and and Sol, and took off. But I soon get to a point, where I can go no further. After arriving in some alphanumeric system, it looks like I can no longer travel forward, but only go back.

How do you find a path to your destination, when you can't just plot course in the map?

Thanks for any info.

Depending how far away it is, go to SOL on the Galactic Map and When you click on it there is a Route Planner Icon next to the others (Small dots with connecting lines), click that and it should generate an orange path through all the systems you need to travel through, they get cued up in your Nav Com so as you jump from one system to another the next system is already targeted. Then you just keep lining up and Jumping with the occasional stop for Fuel Scooping.

It could be its too far away (RED). So just work backwards in the map til you find a system that allows the Route Planner lights up. :D

Also before travelling there make sure you have a Permit to enter the SOL system otherwise you can't jump to it. To get that you have to earn Reputation with the Federation by doing lots of Federation Missions or if you'd been a Kickstarter Backer or Beta Backer I think you get a SOL Permit as standard ;)

You have to wait the plotter to build it's web, if you move towards the end of the line web, you can see other lines appearing. Just select Sol and wait for the lines to reach there, after that press plote route and you won't have to worry about anything apart from finding stars that you can actually scoop.

When plotting a course you must remember 2 rules:

- no routes longer than 100LY - so plan accordingly
- max jump distance of your ship drive - some jumps might not be doable because of this so you can't go further
