i added the first ride to an empty park. i added the entrance. I started laying the que line and kept going untill I got to the existing walk path. when the 2 come into contact with each other they turn red and it says "The Setup would be Invalid" . What does that mean? the land is flat and I tried many areas.

Are you laying path longer than one section at a time?
There is a slider on the right in the menu to change it.
When you get close enough, with the right length path, it will auto join, and create a "ticket booth".
You can also hold 'Z' and you have more control of the join angle.

It sounds like you are too close to the path, and it can't generate a ticket booth.
