I've been following Galnet. Patreus' own faction tried to poison the Emperor in the first place.
Tell you what, you find me proof that somebody else murdered the Emperor, and I'll retract my demand for Aisling Duval's head... and limit myself to demanding Patreus' as his negligence in failing to stop assassins from entering his own employ, resulting in the death of the Emperor, would still be unforgivable even if he had no knowledge of it.
Yes it was. Read the Galnet article about his death. It was done by one of Patreus' people.
We cannot kill senator Patreus, the ruthless federation would crush the empire in an instant. Although I don't exactly love Patreus warmongering, it is his military might that keeps the empire's enemies in check.
I also suspect whoever poisoned the Emperor is also behind the federation former president's "accident"...
I think Hudson's too smart to try that. All his warmongering bombast is just hot air designed to please the voters and cement his domestic position. And if I'm wrong, and Hudson's as stupid as he sounds, the Federation will collapse under its own weight as soon as its military juggernaut heads out for the Empire and is no longer goose-guarding all its slave stars to keep them from seceding. The tax money will stop coming in; without funding, the fleet will crumble for lack of supplies and be unable to reclaim the lost worlds. The Federation will self-destruct, and we'll stop fighting each other long enough to keep their fleet from making any real headway before it happens. Count on that.

It's RP. (shrug) Shooting down player ships, or getting shot down by them, wouldn't really accomplish a thing either.
It was Hudson, thats it, mystery solved.
