It's very obvious that's all part of a larger Thargoid plot, that loves to see the major human powers exhaust themselves with (civil) war.
I have to say that I'm increasingly suspicious of Chancellor Blaine. Logically he was in charge of security and yet someone managed to get a concealed blade past his guards. He's been basically in charge of the Empire since the Emperor fell into a coma and now he has a very strong position as the de facto ruler of the Empire. This plot will discredit Senator Patreus and has prevented the Emperor choosing a successor which means that he is in the prefect position to play Kingmaker or even seize the throne if the two princesses end up fighting over it.
I didn't read the whole thread but I think that Patreus is sooooooo obvious that it couldn't be.
Anders Blaine. He's guilty.
So, while Mrjupp has convinced me I'm being rash--'jumping the gun' as he put it--I still consider Patreus a strong suspect.
Hudson is also a possibility of course, and with both the Federation and Empire having lost their primary leader recently, third parties--including unknown third parties--may also be considered possible.
No, not a lot. There was a small rebellion in one of the overseas colonies, which resulted in the unremarkable and unremembered "United States" being formed, and a Corsican general threw most of Europe into the bloodiest war since the Thirty Years' War, but you can't really blame that on Georgie.England had a Mad King, can't remember much happening, it's the sane one's you have to look out for.
Just saying...historically.
… The Feds are stupid about who they promote...
"We just need to watch for who dies next. Not necessarily anyone at the top but if one or more of their organizations seems to suffer a little house-cleaning in the near future, that's either revenge or somebody cleaning up all the 'talking evidence'. They'll sort it all out between 'emselves by sliding some money around and spilling a fair bit of other folks blood. Now, who wants to concentrate on more important stuff, like maybe helping me kill this bottle?"

After listening to the speculation swirling around, the white-haired spacer leans back in his chair as he waves the bartender over for another bottle of Achenar red.
"Thing is, guys, any of 'em could have done it. We can talk about who had most reason to or who would benefit most, who would have been stupid enough, arrogant enough or downright desperate enough to do it but up at that level of political power they just don't think like that. Heck, it's sometimes hard to tell if they think at all given how badly most of 'em screw up. That, right there, is the reason I still fly independent. They have a view of reality distorted by what their people are telling them, they aren't out here making their own credits and getting their hands dirty. Reality likely doesn't figure into why whoever did it offed the Emperor, only their own view of what they could get away with. Only way we'll find out anything real is by looking at one thing."
He paused, taking a sip of his drink.

I'd just like to point out the OP is a Lavigny Supporter, and repeated states she is the only one above suspicion
The OP Calls for the Imprisonment and or execution of Patreus and an increasing number of other high ranking imperial like Aisling and the Chancellor.
So the assassin is wearing Patreus Livery, and that is sufficient damning evidence and all of a sudden, the Lavigny woman, according to the OP, has just cause to execute every possible rival to the throne in one go, along with other members of the senate who might oppose her.
No advantage to having the assassination happen before the wedding you say.
Seems like a huge advantage to be able to have all possible pretenders and their allies executed, the senate culled and replaced or dissolved and to come across as the aggrieved daughter, who then becomes the next Domitian.
Then we have the Assassin on the Throne...
And has she already demonstrated the "I will arrange for people to be killed until I get what I want" attitude.
But hey the Assassin wore Patreus livery, and there is no possible, conceivable advantage for "Unable to even have a selfish thought" Lavigny (is she still insisting on adding Duval) for having a part in it before the wedding.
The greatest trick a Space Banana ever pulled was convincing the Galaxy they were actually a Banana.YOU tell us that, now?
Now i told all my friends about you. What a shameful confession it will be for me, now.
:-(
Space Banana's never care for Fame or Status, we just watch, and wait, then watch again, then wait then....you get the idea. We're very boring tbh.I sometimes wonder what's it going to be like if you ever hit the galnet news.
As I have said before, if she killed him after the wedding she would be suspect number one.
This way she makes Patreus suspect number one and Aisling Number two as a collaborator so eliminates all other contenders to the throne.
