Okay, so there is a lot of discussion happening right now regarding the path tool. I'd like to express that, though the tool is much improved from Alpha 1 and can be very helpful, it might not be the best option. I understand the developers have worked hard on it, and I'm not asking for its complete removal, I'm just wondering if we could add onto it.
Many theme parks use a combination of paths and what is being called "plazas". Essentially, when you visit a theme park, there is a lot of pavement. You can walk anywhere that isn't fenced off, walled off, or scenery blocking your path. You could have large, sprawling plazas, or tiny spaces to squeeze through, and it's possible to do it because it's paved and accessible. In older amusement parks and fairgrounds, paths separated by grass are normal, but Planet Coaster shouldn't limit itself to this mode of design, especially with such a high bar they've created for the game.
I propose a pavement tool, which works alongside the path/queue tools. Essentially, this would be certain blocks of pavement that could be placed into making plazas (sort of what Parkitect is doing right now with their paths). Guests could move anywhere along the pavement that isn't blocked by walls or scenery. This could allow us to create working interiors of buildings where guests aren't limited to the path, which means we could make gift shops and restaurants (or food courts). We could have different textures so maybe a grassy area of the park is accessible, or a concrete floor. Add queue capabilities like fences to make switchbacks more dense and realistic. I know it's late in the development game and the developers have worked so hard in replicating the Cities: Skylines road system, but please listen to the people who are literally spending their hours rooting for the success of this game. Keep the path tool for people who want a simpler experience of simply placing paths, shops, and rides. But adding a pavement capability would make so many dedicated fans even more dedicated.
What do you guys think?
