Paying 100k for location: *Focused* Medium Fixed Beam Lasers

We can't transfer money, so I'll give 8t of Palladium (I'll deliver it to you too!) to the first commander to post the location of a station selling these!

Note the exact reqs:

Medium (class 2)
Focused prefix (not overcharged)
Fixed mount
Beam laser

I can just imagine... You invite them over to you, drop the cargo then demand all they have and shoot them anyway...

Or actually pay them like a good sport with honor...

I've seen these, right at beginning of my career but can't for life of me remember where. Sorry

They are described as for medium ships so I assumed that meant the larger ships

I figured I could drop the cargo near a station for their peace of mind, couple of dumping fines isn't going to break the bank compared to all that palladium!

Yeah, I know these things exist but prefixed weapons seem to be a pretty rare (and random) spawn, so don't mind paying for the info.

I know I have found them previously around Barnards star area (about 20 ly out, in a place called Carena or Carenan if I remember correctly).

I'm currently based out near Achenar, so I'll keep a look out for you and let you know if I find a supplier.

I believe it's more effective against mirrored hulls, isn't it?

I don't know... Hence me asking... But let's consult the myriad of stats on weapons when buying a new module...

Oh!

My guess was it was more accurate when you targetted a specific system maybe? But who knows... Clearly not us :)

We've been using (testing) these modules for months, but really have no idea how they're suppose to behave, so how do we know if they're working correctly?

Speak for yourself, I couldn't afford 'em ;) !!

You didn't miss much - I was buying weapon modules for 500,000 --> 1,000,000 credits which I could only gauge with infield testing (as no worthwhile stats are given) and most proved a waste of time. Too expensive to run (ammunition) and not enough damage for how innacurate they were.

Yes, although it's more benefit against larger / expensively armored ships, against smaller ships you might even see a small decrease in effectiveness per heat unit, but since big ships are a bigger threat that trade-off is fine by me :)

Edit: This is just info I've picked up from reading around, I can't actually vouch for its accuracy, you know how it is!

Hang on... Somehow the laser knows the size of the ship it's hitting so does more against a big ship, and less against a small one? Really?

No I think that overall it's less efficient if you don't take armor into account. But it's more efficient at piercing armor so when armor is a bigger factor (like on a bigger ship) it comes out ahead.

Ahhh, you're talking about using it against both shields and then hull?

So against shields it's less effective than a non-focused version, but against hull it's better?

If only there were stats against the module to demonstrate this!!!

This seems strange to me that they wouldn't have stats for modules, upgrades, etc.
Does anyone know if adding item stats is on their "to do" list?

I don't think it's *weaker* against shields so much as it does the same damage but costs more heat buildup; against hull it does the same damage but with more armor penetration, and again obviously costing more heat. So if the enemy has little or no armor, it's effectively behaving like a standard laser but with higher heat costs. Its advantages only start to outweigh the drawback of the higher heat against thicker armor, at which point it become more efficient overall.

I run just 2 medium beam lasers and nothing in the small slots on my Cobra, which works great but I think it could bear a touch more heat hence the search for these lasers.

Interesting you seem to differentiate between "hull" and "armour". I just envisage a ship having a hull, and it's simply made of difference material, so the hull is harder/easier to get through. You've almost suggested there you need to get through the armour to get to the hull, which sounds wrong to me? In my view, the mechanic is as simple as a ship with armour simply recieves less damage to its hull than a ship without armour?
